Free agency mega thread 2025 edition!

If it is Monk for Schroeder that is terrible. Like "what the hell are we doing" levels of terrible. But that isn't what anyone said. It says Schroeder will be a sign and trade. Separately, it says Monk will be the odd man out. I still think it is probably a Schroeder for second round pick sign and trade that allows Detroit to create a TPE and allows us to keep our MLE intact. Then, I would assume we would acquire some other asset for Monk in a separate trade. So I think the appropriate question will be is whether we would rather have Monk or rather have Schroeder plus the additional asset.

And if I am wrong, and it is Schroder for Monk, I agree that it is terrible.

It's not terrible but the Kings would be getting the worse end of it for sure. Giving up value for someone you can just outright sign anyway? It creates no cap space. Doesn't do much at all. If the Pistons want to create a MLE sized exception they need to send a pick back.

So we’re giving up assets for a downgrade hoping we get more for monk in a separate trade either way it’s idiotic we’re not OKC/houston we don’t have picks to be throwing away while not making the playoffs
The assets in a sign and trade are usually something like "2031 second round pick, 31-56 protected." Or the Bogi trade where we received the rights to Alex Oriaki, who had been drafted 5 years earlier. I wouldn't think we would be sending out real assets.

We have to give up something for the trade to be a trade. It would likely be a top 56 protected second round draft pick, or something similar.

So they view him highly but won’t play him

If they want Monk in a sign and trade for Shroder they better send Holland haha

So am I accurate this is our current roster

PG Schroeder, Carter
SG LaVine, Ellis, Clifford, Monk, TD
SF Murray, Deebo
PF Jones,
C Sabonis, Val, Raynaud

I would say:

PG Schroeder, Carter
SG LaVine, Ellis, TD
SF Deebo, Clifford
PF Murray, Jones
C Sabonis, Val, Raynaud

[Monk probably traded...for what?]
