Kingster
Hall of Famer
Remember when the idea was that the Kings needed to run the ball to be effective? They have young legs, they have athleticism, they can rebound, they were playing more defense. Makes sense. Run the ball. Get easy shots. They are too young and stupid to run a half court effectively. So I took a look at the first half of the Minnesota game. (Just didn't have the time to go thru the entire game). I looked at all the fast break opportunities the Kings had. Some of this is a judgement call, but on most of the misses of the opposition, I thought the Kings had a chance to run; there were a few exceptions. I completely eliminated running the ball on opposition makes; the Kings just don't do that. This is what I came up with.
Fast Break Opportunities: 17
Fast Break Conversions: 3
Rebound and Put-Back after Missing the Conversion: 2
Rebound and throw out to 3 pt line: 1
So, depending on how you define "conversion", the Kings either had 3 conversions of fast break opportunities in the first half, or they had 6 conversions (adding the rebound put backs and rebound and throw out to the 3 pt line).
Here's the raw data:
1st qrtr(Cousins, Tyreke, Brooks, Thompson, Salmons), with fast break attempt on the left and conversion on the right.

2nd qrt (Thornton, IT, Robinson, Johnson, Hayes)

11 (Yipee! This is the first full-fledged conversion; Robinson rebound and pass to streaking Thornton)
6:10 left in 2nd qrtr (lineup of IT, Thornton, Robinson, Cousins, Tyreke)
No fast break opportuniies
5:25 left in 2nd quarter (Thompson comes in for Robinson)
11 (Yipee! Tyreke rebound and pass to streaking Thornton)
Brooks in for IT with 4 min left in qrtr

11 (I think this was another Thornton conversion; Tyreke may have made the pass; I can't recall)
