Fact or Fiction?

Fresno King

Starter
Kevin Martin will eventually become the Kings all-time leading scorer.

Mitch Richmond - 12,070 points in 7 seasons (all-time franchise leader)

Kevin Martin - 2,527 points in 3 seasons

Martin last season - 1,618 points

Would probably take 6-8 seasons to break it.

I say fact... but he'll need to sign another contract extension to get it.

Thoughts?

At 19.8 points a game, he can do it in another 12 years, if he never misses a game.

Yes, Robertson's numbers were insanely high, even without considering the 6830 rebounds and 7731 assists he got during those 10 years.

(Lest you run for your calculator, that's 26.85 points, 9.43 assists and 8.33 rebounds per game, assuming you never miss a game in 10 years. Robertson missed 68 games during that time, so he had to do about 8% better than those numbers.)

Wow, maybe it's a LITTLE more possible than I thought. I think he'll be able to get like 23-24 PPG for the majority of that time span.

Oh, hmmm. To the best of my recall, there has never been anyone that played over 7 years in Sacramento, so if he breaks Mitch's scoring record, he's also going to hold the longevity record, 10,000 points in under 4 years would be too much to expect. By the time his current contract runs out, he'll have been a King for 9 years, and he'll be 30. He'd have to maintain 20.3 points a game from now until then, or more if he missed any games. If he didn't quite make it, he might be one of those 30 year olds who wants another 5 year contract, no matter where he has to play to get it.

There are too many unknowns in this scenario. Injury, trades, all sorts of things could happen between now and his 30th birthday, not to mention beyond. So I guess I'll go with "no," but I won't mind if I turn out to be wrong. Unless it means that we failed to draft a 30 PPG scorer in the interim...
