The Rockets and the Blazers definitely weren't title contenders back then. It would be foolish to waste an "ambition" for a ring on those teams.

Blazers were a title contender then, they imploded but during the start of the year they were supposed to be one of the contenders and definitely the spurs were also a contender. He is right on two of three teams he mentioned. Rockets were also borderline contenders every year after yao came into the league though

Reason I said the Rockets is because the general consensus before the season was "contender", "they're going for the finals".

I thought there was a good chance of that as well.

With T-Mac/Yao/Anderson/Alston/Howard/Barry/Swift/Deke/WesleyJVG - that's not a team just looking to build some momentum. Now, obviously when all the injuries started to happen, as they did the whole season - all that stuff went away fast.
