Etan Thomas.

SLAB

Hall of Famer
I've made threads about this guy in the past, but I figured I would throw another one out there.

After starting the season as the starter, he seems to have fallen out of the roation a bit only averaging 20 minutes per game.

I know he isn't a guy that puts anyone over the top, but I am personally sick of seeing our pathetic Miller/SAR/K9 trio wander around out there sleepwalking like they have been...I want this guy because he will go all out every night you ask of him.

In the past I have proposed a Kenny Thomas for Etan deal, but with Kenny's sudden inability to play NBA calibur basketball, I have a new trade.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Ronnie Price.

for.

Etan Thomas and Calvin Booth.

The Wiz get a player that can perform in both the backup center and power forward role, and provides a good low-post presence...They also get Ronnie...He's just sweetener, I guess...And it's not like he's doing anything here.

We get a guy that goes all out, and would be a welcome sight to see him fiercly going for rebounds, and blocking shots...His offense isn't speacial, but honestly I don't care...As long as there is effrt, I am now happy...Booth is small little ender that we want...He also can apparently block shots if we want him to.

We look...
Bibby/Douby
Martin/Salmons/Cisco
Artest/Salmons/Cisco
E.Thomas/Corliss/K.Thomas
Miller/Williams/Booth

They look...
Arenas/Price/Daniels
Stevenson/Daniels
Butler/???
Jamison/SAR/Songaila
Haywood/SAR/Ruffin?

hmm...
Garcia instead of Price and call it a deal...
Also, Only if he's Ok with backing up Greg Oden next year.[crosses fingers]:D

This is a sure why not kind of move -- moves the frontcourt in the right direction and would give us a built in defensive/rebounding minded backup 4/5. So I'm down with that sort of thing. Not "the answer" though as in any sort of huge impact move. Just a flavoring move from sluiggish scoring to energetic rebounding/defense. And yes, hopefully with little immediate imapct this year on Ws/Ls. Be a move for the future so that whoever we brought in up front next year could be backed by a ready made Pollard type.

Etan's ideal position, IMO, is to be the primary back up for the PF and C positions. I don't think he's a starter but a great roleplayer that can come off the bench anytime and give you 100% effort everytime hes on the court.

I'd be up for acquiring him, if Muss would actually play him. Considering the minutes Williams has been getting, I think that's a long way from guaranteed.

the wiz use etan thomas solely as a bench player and not much more. I vote for sending kenny thomas and price rather than SAR. SAR works hard and doesnt seem to complain as much as thomas. I like SAR comin off the bench because i feel he does more for us than kenny. I would like to see SAR as our starter over kenny but he just complains about coming of the bench n shareef just accepts his role. I think Petrie can do what it takes to make this trade happen. He has pulled of much bigger "steal of a deal" trades before. Yes it is a wash of a trade but get Kenny and his large contract out of here. Please bring in someone who tries more then he complains.

With all the problems of Etan in Washington, it's the time to make an offer for him. Kenny Thomas+Francisco Garcia for Etan Thomas+filler (Jarvis Hayes or another) would be a good trade.
