ESPN's Ultimate Franchise Rankings: Kings #117

The Los Angeles Angels are #1. Out of 122 franchises, the Kings come in at #117.

I find it amusing/ironic/sad that of the eight categories that were ranked, the Kings' second best score was in the Title Track category described in the article as "Championships already won or expected in the lifetime of current fans." When not winning a title in over 50 years and coming in dead last in your league in the most recent year is one of the most positive things about your franchise... that's not so good, Al.

That list is total BS. The Hornets are number 12 overall and they're dumping perfectly good players because they can't afford to pay them anymore? And the the LA Angels of Anaheim are #1? Because of one dropped fly ball? Did they even have fans 10 years ago? The Cavs are fifth overall? What happens if Lebron leaves, will they drop to 120? The Lakers rank only 6 spots ahead of Oklahoma City and 8 spots ahead of the freakin Bobcats? I could draw names out of a hat and do a better job than this. They did get one team right though -- LA Clippers dead last.

Lol, "quality of arena" - Lakers are ranked as 42 while the Clippers are ranked at 95... right, its not like they share the same arena.

Yeah that list is total BS. No one could possible determine such rankings. It is a matter of opinion. Even if he could possibly do such rankings without a bias, I would have to say it would take attending more than 1 game per team to successfully determine such things.

Interesting but back in 2002 similar poll had Kings Org in top 5 or 10. In this day and age reflects small market more than anything followed by worst attendance. :p

People are so fickle when it comes to these lists. 2-3 years ago we may have been 50 spots up.

Also, there is absolutely no way that we should be 2 spots from the Detroit Lions as a franchise.

Pretty funny when you look at it like that, but I believe the entire category was described as this:

Stadium Experience (STX): Quality of arena and game-day promotions as well as friendliness of environment.

I've moved this to the general thread because it's really not about the Kings simply because they're mentioned.

I'm not really worried where they put the Kings who admittedly are on a downward slide and our true claim to fame our fan attendance has been dismal lately. But how can they put the Red Sox at 58 when they own the #1 team and have 100x the history. The Yankees are even lower. I hate the Yankees but they have one of the proudest traditions in all of sports. They should lose a few spots for moving out of their historic park but they are top 10 any year this decade unless you throw all baseball teams out of the top 10. How stupid.

I can't believe that "promotions" can move a team down 40 spots. I also have a hard time believing the Lakers are "friendlier" than the Clippers...whatever that means.

That's fine, I didn't know where to put it. My original point of discussion was the Kings numbers on the list, and when I searched for previous threads on these rankings I only found one and it happened to be in Kings Rap (posted by you :p).

Really I just wanted to point out some of the bizarre numbers that jumped out at me, and that can be done from any forum. ;)
