the Knicks are desperate to move Eddy Curry #1 (and Jared Jeffries #2) to clear cap space for the 2010 Free Agents (i.e. Lebron, wade and bosh).... now if the kings were willing to take on Curry's remaining year and 11 million salary, they could probably land New Yorks #1 pick for 2010, which very well could be #1 to #4 overall.... double the chance to get John Wall in the lottery...
for the kings to do the knicks the favor of clearing them major cap space, Petrie would have to have the Knicks #1 pick unprotected, because if they do land lebron and wade and more, the following years pick will be worthless (#25-30)....
if the kings could secure an uprotected #1 pick for taking on Curry's salary, we could trade Kenny Thomas and Sean May (both expiring contracts) for Eddy Curry....
Why the Kings do it.... the chance of getting a top 4 pick and maybe #1 overall.... kings get a backup center with legit size.... kings get a potent offensive center to push Hawes to work harder... he will also be in a contract year and more motivate to perform...
Why Knicks do it... clear the final large contract to do the great rebuild with the 2010 Free Agent class... they would have only 16 million in 2010 contracts and over 40 million to give 2 max contracts to #1 Lebron and #2 Wade or Bosh and enough left over to get another impact player in free agency....
