DVR Question

My cable service offers DVR which has, IMO, paid for itself in less than a month, especially since the WNBA playoffs started up (I imagine that it'll come in handy on my duty days when the NBA season starts, too). My question is this: is it possible to record from the DVR to another media? For example, can I hook up my VCR to it? Or, if I decide to invest in a DVD recorder, would that work?

Yes, you should be able to do both. Not sure what system you have so I won't speak definitely on this because it seems when I talk to folks who have systems integrated into their Dish receiver box that they are slightly different than stand along TiVo boxes. But I do that with my standalone TiVo all the time (move recordings from the TiVo hardrive to my VCR and onto a VHS tapes). If you have a something that writes to DVD you should be able to transfer it as well.

I have Cox digital cable, with DVR service. I don't have a DVD recorder yet, but I am considering it. I do have a VCR, but it only has one audio input, so I'm thinking about upgrading, but I'm also worried about compatibility with my PC, or at least the PC I plan to purchase in the next couple of months.

Should work just fine ... does your DVR have High Definition capabilities ??? If the answer is yes, you'll lose the quality if transferring to VHS. Not sure how the transfer will work, quality-wise, to your PC's hard-disk ... if you transfer to DVD you should be okay.

As far as I know you have to "watch" the program you want to transfer, so it can be somewhat of a tedious process if you have lots of shows to do. If you're really anal (like me) or really bored (like me sometimes) you can even sit there while it records and pause the recording so that you can skip over commercials, halftimes, or whatever.
