Down The Stretch

Right now the #3 #5 #6 teams in the West are at 33 wins a piece. # 7 and #8 are 31 wins. We are at 29. There are a few teams not in the top 8 who are playing well too. This is going to be an interesting ending to the season. While the talk around here is to just get the #8 seed or possibly #7, It seems to me that we could end up even better than that if we continue to play well and the chips fall right. I know a lot can happen with us before the end of the season, but a lot can happen to other teams too. One thing for sure, it certainly won't be boring!

yea this year playoffs race will be exciting. just wondering, what happen if 2 teams are tied for the 8th spot? how do you determine which team advance?

^ the matchups they had in the regular season...

say if the lakers and the kings are tied for 8th place and say they played each other 5 times in a season and sac wins 3 of those while the lakers win 2 of those the kings would get the final spot...

Yeah just looking at the standing as we speak and im telling all the way from the number 5 spot is very open at this point wow. All teams are so close in the w/l colum

New Orleans is also quietly making a move down the standings...we're only 3 games behind them in the loss column. Loss count as of right now:
7NOOK-28
8Lakers-30
9Kings-31
10Utah-31
Houston-33
And Minny's only got 32
If those teams on the outside get it together, there could be 6 or 7 (golden state) teams gunning for those final 2 spots. My money is on LA, then Sac, then Utah, New Orleans on the outside. NO is very young and they're going to have to play very well the rest of the way to hold on, which I don't think a team led by a rookie can do. LA and Kobe I think can overtake them, they're in the poll position right now, have proven they can win the big games, and just need to keep pace with the rest of the pack to get in. Sac should keep improving with Artest, easily grab that 7 or 8 if the other teams falter. Utah is also very dangerous, but they might not have the talent (or the heart, if their owner can believe) to keep up with Sac and LA. Houston is obviously a very good team, but they can't stumble at all if they want to get in- 2 of the 4 teams ahead of them will be out of reach if they do, which means no playoffs. And I just don't think they can do it, and get the help from the teams ahead. Minny and Golden State could put a huge run together, but even then, they need a lot of help- overtaking 3 teams just to get to the outside, 4 if they want to get in. That's a real mountain to climb this late in the season. Memphis might stumble, but I can't imagine them falling out of the playoffs. Too big a collapse at this point. So for the teams on the outside, this is gonna be real rough coming down to the wire. Like last year, a lot of big name players and teams are gonna be left out in the cold (Yao/TMac, KG, Baron/Richardson, AK/Boozer, Artest/Bibby, Kobe- somethings gotta give) At least Lebron's finally gonna get his ticket punched.

LA's got a lot of home games, including their last 5, I think. We are going to have to be good on the road.

I am not too concerned about LA closing with a lot of home games. LA has proven quite a few times that they have trouble putting out good efforts against bad teams at home. They have inexcusable losses to Atlanta and Boston at home in the past month.

Quite frankly, the Lakers have had lots of chances to take control of the 8th seed in the last month and just haven't gotten it down. Sure they have Kobe, but they just don't seem to have a killer instinct. Every time it seems like they are about to make a big move they lose a game that makes you scratch your head.

Plus the schedule that leads up to the final 5 at home is brutal (a 3-game East Coast Road trip, games at Phoenix, San Antonio, Sacramento, Denver, and New Orleans).

I think LA makes it. With NO's slipping out of contention. Memphis could fall as well. Even Denver shouldn't get too comfortable, Utah is 3.5 games behind. Ideal scenario for Kings: Utah passes Denver in the NWD, getting the 3rd seed. While Kings get 6th seed, surpassing LA, NO and Memphis.

Are any of you real Kings fans?

I don't know about you but LA will always have a place at the bottom of my toilet. They had their time...many times. It is now time to witness their modern dump. LA misses the playoffs 2 seasons in a row...sorry Showbe.
