Thinking Outside the Position
I think the players on this team are going to change the way we think about positions. Tyreke - a one, a two, or a three? Casspi - a two or a three? Donte - a two, a three, or a four? Thompson - a four or a five? Spencer - a four or a five? Answer: It all depends on the matchup. It's not very emotionally satisfying for the fans. Thus, the incessant argument about Tyreke. And initially it's probably more difficult for players, as they have to learn the offense and defense from different vantage points on the court and to take on multiple roles. Donte Greene is going through that adjustment now. But it's highly unsatisfying for opposing coaches and players. Makes their life very difficult trying to prepare for multiple scenarios. If the Kings play the Celts, for example, Doc Rivers must prepare for Tyreke playing against either Rondo, Allen, or Pierce. This is analogous to have a conventional soldier being specialized in one role, as opposed to Special Forces in which they are conversant in multiple roles. It allows for maximum flexibility of attack. I like it.
