Direction.

So the Kings are a bit at a crossroads.

Option 1: trade a couple firsts for a player like Cam Johnson.

Upside: Kings go on a run and make the play-offs

Downside: Kings only make the play-in and lose their draft pick this year plus the picks they traded.

Option 2: Kings start a reset by trading Fox and obtain assets

Upside: Kings keep their pick and balance their roster. They miss the play-offs this year but position themselves for longer term success

Downside: Kings trade their only non-stoppable scorer and find themselves having to completely rebuild.

So which direction do you prefer? It seems Monte is locked in on Option 1. If you will attend 10 or more games please note it.

Option 3. Keep it going. They have this year, if it doesn't work or fails miserably, THEN look to cash out on Fox. Draft night would be the prime time. Picks to win now are iffy IMO because the Kings also have a 2031 pick swap that could end up bad. Moving any more firsts in a trade pretty much makes this next one the LAST 1st round pick trade up front Monte can likely make, or at least very close to it.

If we got a godfather offer for Fox or he requests out it changes my calculus but otherwise I am with @SacTownKid and figure play the season out before making a move since if we fail to make the play-in I see sweeping changes ahead. If we can move Huerter for size I do it but not with first round picks attached.

I just don't think I trade first rounders without Fox signing an extension first as I just don't see us as one move away especially when Fox can say he didn't like the move we did.

the direction at this point in time will be running on the hamster wheel. I am holding out hope that Monte will eventually do the inevitable, but with Vivek having the final say, he may not sign off on it and so here we are.

In agreement with others - based on our current record and the noise coming from Fox’s camp, I doubt that we resign Fox before the start of next season. So don’t trade Keegan, Devin, or future firsts for Cam Johnson or similar. We are probably going to need those guys/ picks. Maybe the team can fight their way into the playoffs with what they have and maybe that makes staying more appealing for Fox. But even then, I would still consider moving him. Sure, he’s exceptionally talented and a proven commodity at this level. But his value, like his play, is probably near its peak. And – while it’s not over – it just hasn’t grown beyond the promise of the beam team.

Some caution --> I would like to know what we could get for Fox. I know we all notice when he coasts and underperforms, but we probably don’t notice or comment as much when he’s killing it, and his talent would be hard to replace. Does he get moved for Chris Webber or for Buddy Hield?

They are actually four games back of the Lakers at this moment, in sixth place, and two behind Golden State, in tenth. Both those teams are playing tonight (Sunday night) so that will soon change.
the lakers hold the tie breaker.

If we all think Carter is as good as many think

is the drop off from Fox to Carter as big as the drop from the forwards we might get to what we have? If you are going to keep picking all these damn guards you have to trade one of them for value at some point.

We did. Hali+Buddy Hield for Sabonis. Where you been?

And essentially Davion for DeMar. Huerter is not in the long term picture, moving out two guards and adding one that can play multiple positions? Nothing to see here. And it should have been Fox and Hali, but there was no question there was too much crossover between Fox and Hali considering almost Hali's entire value was on offense as a PG. Fox AND Carter is the way. That could be the most well rounded and best defensive backcourt since maybe Thomas and Dumars? Maybe Wall and Beal but they weren't really racking up the defensive nods.

I think the team needs to see what they have in Devin Carter and the "player to be named later" once a trade materializes before they can solidify where they are going. In other words, what are the strengths that can be maximized, and the weaknesses minimized, via strategy, rotations, and player development?

So we can only pick option 1 or 2? If I had to pick, I guess I'd pick 2 as long as it didn't end in a total rebuild situation. I'd like at least a couple more seasons of playoff hopes before going back into the abyss of the lottery gods.

I'll probably make it to 10 games this season FWIW, and every playoff game if they make it that far.
if you have another option feel free to post it.
