Demarcus Cousins Named Player of the Week

Chubbs

Starter
Congrats Boogie!

"Cousins led the Kings to a 2-1 week and paced the league in rebounding (16.3). He averaged 25.7 points (second in the league) on .577 shooting (30-for-52) and tallied five blocks. On Nov. 22, he recorded his sixth consecutive double-double with 31 points and 18 rebounds, matching his season high, in a 113-101 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves."

His this his first Player of the Week?

I sure think so. Given that the 2nd game was average for Boogie and AD had a monster game in his last game, I am a little surprised. I know how good Boogie is and I know how good AD is. Bravo, Boogie, the old "yes, but he is immature" is being flushed down the toilet. Ah, and let me say, bravo, Shaq for teaching Boogie how to use his size.

It's his first this season. I believe he won it once last season as well.

I'm shocked they didn't give it to the golden boy (who has played terrific as well) in AD. So nice to see 3 of the top 5 MVP candidates being all skilled big men in Marc, Davis and Cousins . Hopefully in the upcoming years Embid develops and that Okafor and Towns kid's turn out good. I want to see more good big men matching up. You also got Vucevic who has been a beast this year, his post game is terrific and he rebounds like Cuz.

I actually think Boogie may have been better individual performances last year.....

He hardly ever got any foul calls last year - really different this year.

Having to do it all by yourself, with no referee and little team help, was just remarkable last year.

Awesome.

Huge numbers by Boogie, but Davis also put up about 30/11 in the same timespan on comparable efficiency, and Davis' week came with a win over Boogie and the Kings. I'm surprised but certainly not complaining.

If Boogie can up his minutes to the 36-37 mpg range, he should have a good number of these awards by the end of the year and should be in the MVP discussion.

i know what you mean. Definitely more of a team element this year. Doesn't seem like he's taking as many shots (although they should definitely feed him more and it would probably help the team) and i haven't seen the numbers but i would assume his usage rate is slightly down from last season right now

Pelicans getting blown out by the Nuggets didn't help AD's case.

Nope on both the shots and FTA -- virtually identical.

Per 36:
Boogie 2013-14: 18.7FGA 9.3FTA 32.7USG
Boogie 2014-15: 18.5FGA 9.2FTA 32.4USG

Its the impression that's changed more than the numbers. We're winning and he's leading.

I think Cousins' improvements on the defensive end (leading to wins) are also turning heads. He is starting to play like a two-way star and that is having a huge impact on the perception of him and the team. Davis, despite being a phenomenal shot blocker, is not a paint clog (as compared with a player like Ibaka or Chandler) and the Pelicans' defense went to crap when Asik went out with injury.

The press will try to "be fair" and week to week feature a different player focusing on the winners, but as long as the Kings keep beating top teams they will HAVE to keep coming back to DMC! I typically don't put much value on the meia and their spin, BUT I am glad to see Boogie getting some of the recognition that is long over due.

Chandler is a defensive anchor and a bit of a paint clogger. He's pretty good one on one and great as a help defender. And Asik is a paint clogger. But despite having a build like a Greek statue, Ibaka is a finesse defender. He doesn't have the lower body strength to keep guys from establishing post position and isn't a great post defender. The thinking with the Perkins (or Adams) and Ibaka combo is the same as Davis and Asik for that reason.
