Deep thoughts

Is this the worst team in the Sacramento era?

were you around when Jason Thompson & Spencer Hawes duo was the excitement for fandom?
we once started Candace Parker’s beard at power forward/center for like a month straight despite the fact he was awful and cheered when he got benched for a weird rapist (Justin Williams)

one can create an entire catalog worth of players that have come and gone, gotten significant minutes and even started when they wouldn't for any other franchise

Yeah, this isn't even close.

We can totally be displeased with the product, but there's always worse. There's Kenny Natt worse. This team has pieces to be passable.

Keegan is still out, for cris'sake.

Nah, I’m with Jerry reynolds. This is the worst. They have way more talent and put out way less effort than any of the teams mentioned above. Jerry reynolds compared last night with probably the worst performing kings squad in the Sacramento era and he said this is way worse. No one better to speak on it.

To be accurate, he thinks it's the worst home stand that he can recall. Keeping in mind that many of those losing teams were respectable or even good at home, and were almost always competitive at Arco

This is a group of somewhat talented players that probably don’t enjoy playing together because there is no rhyme or reason to the team structure.

It’s not the worst. But might be the worst to actually watch.

Look at you with the uncharacteristically measured analysis! I think this is a very sensible view of the proceedings, and it was all entirely predictable. The hopeful may have looked at this roster and saw some theoretical whole that was more than the sum of its parts, but realistically, this roster just defies so much of what we know to be true of team-building in the NBA. There were but the slimmest of margins to make it work, and it probably required a healthy Keegan and healthy Domas to start the season.

And even that would have offered no guarantee of success, because as you said, this bunch just looks miserable playing together. They know they don't make sense as a team. I mean, LaVine himself said so! He showed his ass by alluding to his desire to play alongside defenders who can cover up for how much he sucks on that end, but it was a revealing sentiment overall. He's looking at his teammates and recognizing that nobody complements anybody else in any meaningful way. Come December 15th, Perry and co. need to get on with rebuilding this thing.

You are right. He said playing at home usually doesn’t result in an effort like last night. That 90-91 kings squad won one road game but had a 24-17 home record. They were definitely better at home. So what does that say about this squad?

a group of baseball players are standing in a dugout and one of them is wearing a jersey that says indians

Yeah, Lavine is just confirming what we already knew. We also know the same thing applies with DDR. Which is why the current state of affairs was predictable. We knew that this team got softer, not tougher, during the off-season. We knew that the parts didn't fit. We knew there wasn't enough length and athleticism. So, why should we be surprised? I'm actually not angry at the team's performance last night because when a soft misfit team is night-in-night-out facing longer and more athletic teams it's going to grind on them physically and mentally until finally they just capitulate. The next phase is for the veteran players to dis-invest and detach from this team, as they talk with their agents about getting off the Titanic.

Oh for sure this team is a better NBA 2K team than any team we've had and their performance is unacceptable but at least you can see a great individual performance by someone who maybe was a star once. Ticket prices are too high and there is more competition than ever for how you spend your time and money. By that measure this team is the worst.

No offense to Kevin Martin but when he is your supposed franchise savior and the lone bright spot on your roster it's a lot tougher to get people in the building. And we've had plenty of rosters where Rock or Cousins were the only watchable elements. And I was like 17 when Rock showed up so unfortunately I barely remember some of the rosters before him. Especially between the time Theus left and we drafted L-Train. Of course at that time in my life Kings were just more of a "wow there's a team in my hometown and I have great seats to watch them lose to <good team with stars>".

Another deep thought...
In hindsight, do you think that a player like Zach wishes he had a lower paying contract? I'm sure it seemed like a huge win to get that monster deal, but it has made him unwanted, untradeable, and perpetually underappreciated since he cannot walk on water for the price a team must pay him. With his shooting skills, teams would be clamoring to offer him the best of situations if he was only more affordable. He would be celebrated, beloved, and in the driver's seat.

I remember from second grade math that $215 million is way more than $115 million, but what is the price on one's quality of life? Does the pricepoint of living the ultimate life you want start at that $215 million number, or can you have the same life experience with a measly $50 million?

I have wondered something similar. It will be interesting to see if Zach declines his player option to sign a contract elsewhere

Right lol I’d love to have Beno Udrih running the show for us at this point but outside of that, we have absolutely seen much much worse. Hell, we were getting killed like this with everyone’s precious Haliburton on the court too but nothing is worse than Jason Hart, Salmons and Ime running around out there

Whoa!!! You spilling some tea on early 2000s end of benches I had no idea about!

Anyways, JT>>>Landry and I'm sticking to it.

I bet Tom Brady has never lost any sleep thinking about taking a discount contract in the prime of his career.

On a much smaller scale there is an amount, I haven't quite figured it out, but it's definitely a lot less that these guys make in a year for which I will just completely shut it down if I hit.
