Hello Spencer,

If you're reading this I want you to know at least one Kings fan has not given up on you.Though I will admit you have had me screaming at the TV and running trade idea's through my head!

Having only just followed you're career as a Sacramento King I can say that you have just as much talent as anyone in this league. The baffling thing is though is that you have just as much intensity and heart and hustle as well!
Which makes me wonder why you are constantly out rebounded, pushed over and generally just out matched.
I hope that you can find the strength to out rebound and block every opponent who dares to even try score in the paint!I hope you dont give up and realize the potential we have seen so far!I hope lastly, that you play within you're self and play with the confidence we have seen when you are at you're best!

Sincerely,
Kings fan

I hope Spencer checks up on KingsFans.com every now and then, because he needs to read that. His confidence has been a roller-coaster thus far this season, and his game has gone with it. We've seen a lot of potential from this kid, now Spencer has to show us some consistency. He's in his 3rd year, but then again, he's still a young kid. Keep your head up.

Hawes' biggest issue just seems to be a lack of strength. We all know he has an array of low-post moves, but he doesn't have the strength to hold his position and utilize them.
He also lacks the strength to consistently defend the other Centers in this league.
I think that if he was able to get a lot stronger we'd see him a lot more in the post, and we'd see the team actually make a concerted effort to get him the ball in the post.

Last year he would spend a lot of time trying to get position in the post. The problem was that our guards would never get him the ball, and he'd have to clear out.

This year I don't see him fighting for post position the way he did last year. I'm not certain if that is due to him being discouraged, or if that is the direction that Westphal is going, by having him clear the lane for Tyreke and waiting for the kick-out pass.

JT seems to get more post-up opportunities than Hawes. And while JT does have more strength, he doesn't have anywhere near the skills that Hawes has when it comes to post-scoring. But since JT's been in a slump, it looks as if he hasn't really been looking for much post-scoring himself. (Again not sure if that is by Coach design or not)

With all that said, even if Hawes does manage to get the strength he needs to be more effective in the post, I'm not certain he'll ever be the post-defender we need. Therefore I wouldn't be opposed to trading him for a defense-oriented big or have him be part of a trade which brought back another 'star' big to pair with Tyreke. But if given the opportunity, I'd rather keep him and see if he's able to develop into the type of player we all hoped he'd become when he was first drafted.

Soggy Waffles!!! I haven't lost all hope, in fact I'm hoping in wrong about u... But ur so Soggy!!!!!!

Maybe he needs to get fatter. Then he would be able to hold his position. He shouldn't aspire for the Marc Gasol 2008 body, but more Danny Fortson/Bynum.

He should go for the extra late night snack or desert from Dairy Queen. Maybe go to GNC and buy a tub of Weightgainer 3000 and throw it in some Muscle milk a couple of times a day. He could Gain 20 lbs of gut,but still exercise daily. He could become a fat, but athletic, active guy(eg Sammo Hung).

Whacky idea? Yes.

He should aspire for chain smoker, fat, flabby out-of-shape Vlade circa 2003.

he needs to bulk up... not out of shape like vlade... vlade had saavy, bb iq and experience to back it up... if spence went the vlade route at this age he might be like micheal sweetney or tractor trailer.

he should aspire to have the strength and body of Gasol. (marc not Pau)

I have seen spencer do some one handed put backs and dunks... he is NOT that unathletic... and lets not forget that block/foul on scola earlier in the season he is fiery. we just need to push his buttons and motivate him.

Dear Mr. Hawes,
You get pushed around by half the centers in the league- that's average and not acceptable! You'll never get that physique unless you take steroids. I know a guy.
Cheers

It's not as easy at is sounds. The phisical evolution of Marc Gasol has been very long. In his last year in Spain, in wich he dominated the league in a way we've never seen since Sabonis left Real Madrid for the Blazers, he was really, really fat. Since then he has converted all that fat in muscle, but it has been a long journey of almost 2 years and a half. Spencer has to work in the other way of the road: he needs to gain weight, not losing it.

I think Spencer is talented enough to blossom suddenly and be a great center, because his incredebly skilled. His problem seems attitude, but maybe the real reason it's there isn't a good big man coach in the staff to teach him enough fast.

I'm still convinced that Spencer's biggest problem was learning from Brad Miller for a year and a half. It set him up for disaster.

Spencer = weak sauce

Bench him until he proves he deserves the mins. It could be the best thing for him to force him to improve his game.

Give the mins to Brock and KT if they give us the best chance to win.

I couldn't agree more. I remember at the time Grant & Jerry were saying how great it was that he was being mentored by Brad and it almost made me throw up. Here is what Spencer learned from Brad:

1. How to be 7 feet tall and play soft
2. How to let other bigs score and dunk on you at will
3. How to treat the rookies on team like a douche (remember the immature popcorn incident last year)
4. How to cry about every call made against you

Spencer needs a new role model IMO.
