LOS ANGELES -- Oscar De La Hoya announced his retirement from boxing on Tuesday, four months after his final bout ended in a one-sided loss to Manny Pacquiao.

"I've come to the conclusion that it's over inside the ring for me," De La Hoya said at a news conference across the street from Staples Center, where a statue of him stands.

Good for him, there really wasn't anything left for him but to lose his good looks or his brain. DLH was one of those guys I grew to hate after a few gift decisions towards the late 90s but after his record became blemished he gained all my respect back and then some.

Maybe by the time King is out of the game he can become top dog with his pomotion company and bring boxing back to the respectability it enjoyed in the past.
