David Lee to the Warriors in a sign and trade with New York?

Obviously a good trade for the knicks. Lee would certainly be a nice pickup for GS and since they hate Randolph they might as well get rid of him haha.

Somebody better post guards on the Golden Gate tonight. I'm worried about those "Randolph = Magic" Warrior fans.

I like David Lee and wanted the Kings to try and get him a couple of years ago, but I don't think he is worth any where near this kind of money. It is hard to say if the Warriors gave up too much or not. If Randolph becomes a good as many seem to think, then it could be a mistake. Azubuike & Turiaf are both nice role players, but ultimately won't make much of a difference in the long run.

On a side note, I think this makes it even more likely that they will resign Morrow. Azubuike is a player that brings a lot of similiar things (albiet, not as good IMO). His pressence would have made it easier for them to let Morrow go, but now he becomes more of a need IMO.

The Warriors entered the Tyson Zone for me with this move. They have two (three, if you still count Brandan Wright) promising prospects at the PF spot in Randolph and Udoh, one of whom was just drafted 3 weeks ago. They then decide to trade the youngest one with the most potential in exchange for the opportunity to overpay for a player who is less athletic, will be less dynamic on offense, and plays worse defense than either of their them. It's like they're actively trying ruin the team before they have to hand things over to Larry Ellison.

The Ws had a lot of needs going into free agency, but I promise you that power forward was not one of them.

Really? I look at the Warriors going into free agency and I don't see one power forward I like on the whole roster. Biedrins and Gadzuric are both centers. Vladimir Radmanovic is terrible. I think Turiaf is a good role player, but nothing more. Brandan Wright didn't set foot on the court this past year and has done pretty close to absolutely nothing in his three years since being drafted. And Randolph? A lot of potential, but apparently injury-prone and incredibly skinny, and I think if he's going to make it in the NBA, it's going to be as a SF, not a PF. This leaves only first-round draft pick Ekpe Udoh, and who knows how he develops? That's five guys, and a gaping hole at PF.

They traded away two of those guys, a role player and a future SF in order to get one of the top PFs on the market who has shown that he can rebound and score at an elite rate on a weak team. Did they overpay him? Maybe. But Lee is now the obvious starter, Radmanovic and Wright get pushed aside and leave in a year (both contarcts up), and it's going to be Lee and Udoh getting the minutes at the 4 in GS. I like Lee with Udoh backing him up a lot more than I like the five-headed Randolph/Wright/Turiaf/Udoh/Radmanovic clusterbomb.

Idk about Lee in that system, I've read that Biedrins has alot of similar skills to Lee that he doesn't get to use aka a jump shot. I really think Lee should of taken less to play in Utah or something but in GSW he's gonna be over matched in the West where there still is size they gotta deal with.

I love the trade for the Knicks though they are building a nice exciting but no higher than 7th seed, it'll be very interesting to see who they pick up to run point. I can easily see them signing the dissapointing Raymond Felton who I don't even think would be a good fit in Dantonis system,I wish Sergio stuck around there

Well, David Lee got paid, though not as much as I was expecting. I think he can be a good fit in Oakland, and am glad he's not a King. Now, if they start playing a real basketball system (and Randolph becomes a solid NBA player), then this trade will look pretty bad for them, but I think Lee's playing style fits Nellie ball pretty well (big stats, little impact).

This all hinges on how Randolph is viewed and develops. You say he's not a PF, but a SF, and that's obviously arguable considering how skinny he was. But he's 6'11" (after growing an inch from last year) and just added 20 pounds of muscle to get up to around 230-235. And did I mention he doesn't turn 21 until next week? He's not nearly done filling out. When you consider his potential defensive ability when he's able to keep his position in the paint consistently, he's geared to be a monster PF. That potential alone should be enough to shy away from overpaying for the 27-year old Lee, who shows no potential for playing defense.

This is before we get into the offensive side of the ball, where his ball handling and general versatility in his game have been compared to Garnett and Odom. No guarantee that he would fulfill that potential, but it was brewing last year, and it was a reason for excitement for GS fans along with Curry's development.

You send that away to accomplish what, exactly? No one will argue that their team is constructed to win now. Not when you were fielding D-Leaguers for much of the last season. So why the rush to spend on a guy who will be near 30 by the time this team is ready to go? More importantly, why cost yourself a young, raw player with the potential to be a two-way star for a one-way guy at the same position?

Garbage deal for Golden State... What next? This puts them in that dangerous zone of never ending mediocrity... Bad enough to miss the playoffs, but good enough to distance themselves from the top picks in the draft. They need to start over and just begin with Curry. Trade Ellis, Biedrins, and Lee all for draft picks. Then get rid of Nellie and their ridiculous run n gun small ball system.

You look at Randolph and you see potential waiting to be tapped. I look at Randolph and see a guy a few years from washing out of the league. That can definitely change the perception of a deal. It's probably fair to say that the ultimate future evaluation of the deal will hinge on what happens with Randolph.

Why wouldn't you want Lee? He's a 20-10 guy with a high BBall IQ. He's not the most athletic guy or best defensively, but he does make up for it with smart play, and again, he is a 20-10 guy!!! Being a slow white guy he has to work harder to get those numbers and it has paid off.

I never said that I wouldn't want David Lee. I just think the Warriors overpaid for him. Now if you are talking about wanting him on the Kings, I don't think they need him with their current front court. Adding him wouldn't be a major upgrade over Landry/JT, especially at that price. I did want the Kings to go get him a couple years ago, though.

It is actually the play of David Lee that has me scratching my head about NY. I hear a lot of people claiming that the signing of Amare will put them back on the map. I just don't see Amare as a huge upgrade over Lee. Amare is a better scorer and Lee is a better rebounder, while neither of them play a lot of defense. All Amare really brings over Lee is star power.
