Dallas v.s. Seahawks

Wow, I was rooting for the Cowboys and what a horrible loss that was. Holy crap, it seemed the refs were all for the Seahawks, all those close out of bounds plays and ticky tack bumps were called.

Then of all things, a crazy safety, a seahawk touchdown, and a botched field goal that would have given the Cowboys the lead with 1minute left in the game. :(

The game was decided by a safety. Would someone take a look at the rule book. Seems to me that the impetus to the fumble going into the end zone was applied by the defensive player. A safety requires the impetus to be from an offensive player (a blocked punt has "impetus" from the kick - that is not true of a fumble punched out of a runner's hands). If the impetus was from the defense, when the ball goes out of bounds in the end zone, it would be a touchback - Dallas ball on the 20 - not a safety.

Maybe it was makeup for the jobbing the Seahawks go in last year's superbowl? I didn't see the game and don't know what happened with the safety, but its only a touchback if the defensive team is ruled to have gained possession first. If the ball is punched loose and knocked out of play in the endzone without establishing possession its a safety.

That was a very frustrating game to watch, especially when you think all a player has to do is ( his or her job) !
Dallas should of at least took the lead...to fumble a perfect snap?
Romo & Dallas must really be feeling blue.
As a fan I expect alot more from these pros...am I alone?

I'm a die hard Rams fan, all the way back to the LA days.

I wanted Dallas for pops...a Texas native.

So many highs & lows in sports...how do these players get through tough losses? Well I guess making millions doesn't hurt!

Die hard Kings fan as well...ouch.

Romo should have been down also, after he dropped the snap for the field goal and tried to run it to the end zone, instead it was ruled a fumble and seahawks recovered

I'm a diehard cowboys fan, my dad was when he was like 18 too, he still even has the 1992 beer he bought from the Cowboys superbowl, he didn't drink it yet.

Maybe it was the stadium lighting, but that football that Romo botched during the field goal attempt sure looked...shiny. (slick?)

It was a Brand New ball, the backup quarterback, *Bledsoe was supposed to be holding that football

i hate both teams but to say that the seahawks won cause of favorable officiating is ridiculous... them 'boys choked plain and simple... a fumble leading to a safety, giving up a TD pass and botching a snap on basically an extra point to win the game is what you call a choke... dont blame the officials...

oh and PS niners gonna rock the nfc next year... and i feel a train wreck is about to occur in the big D lol

Hasn't Romo been the holder since he took over? If so, then that's not an excuse. The snap was perfect, and Romo just dropped the ball, both literally and figuratively.

I kept watching the replays and it really looked like something was sprayed on the ball or maybe it was oiled up :p.

Seriously though, that ball was awfully shiny

Gawd, I hate the Cowboys, so this game was pure joy!

that said, I feel for the guy. Frankly he has EASILY outperformed ANY reasonable expectation for performance in his first half season as a starter, has looked pretty damn clutch in his late game play, and dumb-*** cowboy fans are turning on him like he is O.P. wearing an an al-quaeda t-shirt.

Keep it up cowboy fans :) sow the seed of your own destruction ;)

That is plain silly. So if you fumble in the endzone and it goes out of bounds then you get a touchback? That means you get an automatic 20 yard gain for not holding on to the ball.

I am a neutral fan and I must say, this was a superbly officiated game. Matter of fact, it made me jealous of the nfl refs, which is hard to do since they have sucked so bad in the not so distant past.

The ball looked shiny to me, too, but I highly doubt it was anything different than a normal kicking ball (the NFL uses different balls for kicking situations).

IF that is supposed to be Bledsoe job, then why wasn't he out there?
Romo, as the backup QB, was the holder from the start of the season, but when they switched quarterbacks mid-season they decided not to switch holders. I think Larry89 was just complaining that they should have switched holders when they switched QBs.

They did rule him down I believe. It wouldn't have mattered though, either way the Seahawks would get the ball back since Romo did not make it to the first down line.

Great tackle by the Seahawk player, by the way. Without that diving tackle, Romo would probably have gotten the first down, and maybe even a touchdown. The tackle was the play of the game. I was quite pleased to see the Cowboys lose, but I feel bad for Romo.

The "impetus" word is something that is actually in the rulebook. I went and checked. But it also very clearly states for the blocked punt situation that the defensive team merely provides "a change of direction" and not impetus. Clearly by NFL definitions "impetus" means legally possessing the ball. That's not the Webster definition so I'm sure that's the source of the OP's confusion. That play was clearly a safety by any standard.

Regarding the hold on PATs and FGs this is not necessarily the backup QBs job. Some teams use the starting QB, some teams use their backup, but more than a few teams actually use their punter. I follow New England and Denver. I can't remember who held early in the season for Denver but Plummer was holding once Cutler took over. I don't think Cutler was holding early though I might be wrong. In New England they used their horrible punter (Walter) for a few seasons and they had to keep him around despite his ineffectiveness because Vinatieri demanded it. Its like a pitcher in baseball demanding his own vanity catcher. But if the kicker is solid you should aim to stick with the same holder all season to take away that extra variable. In Dallas's case they actually switched kickers after going to Romo so from that point on Bledsoe should have been holding.

1st this wasn't Bledsoe's job, it was Romo's he was doing it for the last few years and all this year.

2nd, Love how the people of other teams that are horrible talk smack. Makes me laugh... At least come at me when your team is actually good vs a non playoff team for years. Only one team can win it all...

3rd. Took a few days to get over this loss. Still Dallas is in a good position for the future, as long as the off-season doesn't get all nutty with Parcells and TO... odds of it not getting nutty are about 0%

I'm sure it was a tough loss for you, but I think you're being a little defensive with this comment. If a person doesn't like another team, they can revel in that team's loss regardless of how their own team is doing. It's not "smack" talk. It's glee. :)

I hate to say it but you're right. I'm a Red Sox fan and if we aren't in the hunt I can at least take a little glee when the Yanks get knocked out.

Besides what are we talking about here, '9ers and Cowboys? They've both been essentially irrelevant for the same period of time. Both teams have made the playoffs a few times since they fought it out every year during the early 90s but they've never been legit contenders since then either.

disclaimer - I'm a fan of neither team but would always root for the Cowboys over the '9ers in the 90s.

I'm a Vikings fan... the team that's choked more chances away than any other, I'm sure. With that said...I always enjoy when some other team does the same. Since I was always a Steeler fan, back in the day, I always enjoy the "Boys" goin' down. :D

Technically you're even with the Bills. But then you had that missed kick from your perfect kicker in 99 which cost you a pretty good matchup with the Broncos (who had just won their first after going 0 for 4).

Oh, yes, I remember that missed kick. I had just worked a 10 hour graveyard shift...and stayed up to watch that stupid game.
The Vikes have lost 4 SB...but not in a row. :) And our players remember to bring their helmets to the game. ;)

All brand new balls have a shiny appearence. Theres a thin layer of wax on them and theres a "scrubber" on each team. Somebody forgot to scrub......
