Dale Davis to Detroit

Detroit News - Detroit Pistons President Joe Dumars has grown weary of waiting on coveted free agent swingman Michael Finley, signing Indiana Pacers free agent power forward Dale Davis to a two year contract.

Davis, 36, would replace Elden Campbell on the Pistons' roster in the role of veteran "Shaq-Insurance."

The Pistons used part of their mid-level exception to sign the former all-star, all but eliminating the chances for the team to acquire Finley. The Pistons may use the rest of the exception on Minnesota Timberwolves free agent swingman Latrell Sprewell.

I wouldn't of minded him backing up Brad, would of been one of my choices, but he wanted more money.

The moving costs might be prohibitive for Latrell to move ALL the way from Minnesota to Houston. After all, he does have his family to feed.

I thought Spreewell was going to Houston?

Hoopsworld was wrong, and the signing of Anderson will prevent that. It was either Houston or Detroit, now it's gonna be Detroit for Spree.

I'm certain the Auburn Hills crowd will be thrilled beyond belief - especially with the Pippi Longstocking look.

"The Pistons didn't get the same face time, a sign that Finley probably wasn't as interested. They also were in talks with free-agent guards Derek Anderson and Latrell Sprewell. Anderson signed a two-year contract with the Rockets on Sunday." Detroit News

"Discussions with Sprewell cooled in the last few days, and the Pistons pursued another option. The roster, which didn't have much wiggle room to begin with, appears to be complete with the addition of Davis." Detroit News

Cross Pistons off the list of Mo Evans wanters. Either Spurs/T'Wolves (or Kings? ;) ) now (rightfully so, that Sonics rumor died way down over the past 1-2 weeks).
