Cousins says...

We seem to have threads for just about everything else, and since I couldn't figure out where else to put this, I decided to start this thread.

I like this comment by Cousins. And I know he's said stuff like this before. I think the difference this time is that with the guidance of Vlade, Rondo and others, I think Cousins understands better than he has before. Watching him yesterday, when the Magic did everything they could to get under his skin, was illuminating. Especially when Rondo stepped up and made sure Cousins stayed on point.

Cousins on missing Miami game: "I hate that I left my teammates hanging. A foolish mistake on my behalf. But we moved on from on it."

It's quotes like that that suggest Cousins may be approaching self-awareness.

It's such a shame, that he's THAT close and would probably destroy the NBA if he simply put as much effort into figuring out what he's doing wrong and fix it as he does into getting upset.

Cuz has been saying stuff like this for awhile now.

That's not a dig either. Maturation takes time, and it's very encouraging to see him continue to take responsibility, rather than try to play the victim.

He may always have his flare ups, but I think he'll continue to get better. And I'd much rather stay patient with our future HOFer than jettison him for scraps.

Keep on growing Cuz!

Encouraging. He's not too proud to own his mistakes. That is maturity.
I can relate to Cousins in a way. He has great passion and cares more than most. It's a blessing and a curse. I hope he can learn to keep that lightning in the bottle and channel it to his advantage.
Nonetheless I would rather stand next to a guy who is too hot, than one who struggles to care enough to stretch his own boundaries.

I thought he seemed weirdly calm yesterday as well. Even when he didn't get the calls, he didn't get all upset at the refs like usual. Just played his game and filled up the stat sheet. Refreshing to see..

I doubt Cuz will ever be perfect, but then I'm not perfect, and the world isn't watching me. One thing is for certain, you can't solve a problem until you admit you have one, and Boogie has done that. From this point on, it's just going to be a process of changing his habits. You can still argue calls, or non calls, you just don't do it while play is still going on. Rondo is a perfect example of that. You'll see him during a time out, or while free throws are being shot talking to a ref. Ref's don't mind explaining their calls, they just don't like being shown up in front of god and everyone else. It's tiny steps as they say, and at least I can see Cuz is trying. That's progress...
