Corliss Williamson

I decided to start this thread assuming that Corliss Williamson will take over as coach.

So what do we know about Corliss? What can we expect?

-nickname is "Big Nasty"
-won an NCAA championship at the University of Arkansas
-played for the Kings back in the day, a few years under Rick Adelman
-played off the bench and won a championship with the Detroit Pistons, one of the best defensive teams of all time
-coached at the University of Arkansas, but never led them to an above .500 record
-was an assistant under Malone
-was kept as an assistant under Karl
-apparently has the player's respect

I would think, with this pedigree, that Corliss knows a lot about the game. He played under some great offenses and defenses. Should be familiar with Malone's philosophy of defense. Should know how to best utilize Demarcus.

Anyone want to add anything? I'm not expecting that much from him, but I expect the team to improve.

Better hope that pie and the sky never happens or he will be the next coach of the Kings to get a 3-5 year contract, only to be fired within 2 seasons.

He was part of the infamous "flexible pieces" trade (along with Brian Skinner and Kenny Thomas) that sent Chris Webber to the Sixers.

Known as a good guy, and maybe critically possibly Cuz's main contact/respect point/handler amongst the coaching staff.

Also has the sort of resume you would like to see out of an assistant taking over. And by that I mean a top respected roleplayer/voice in the lockerroom type, guy who has won big, played with great players, played under great coaches. Doesn't mean he'll be great, but those are all things that are promising. he's been around and learned from the best, and contributed to great teams.

IF Corliss can get this team to 21-9 in the last 30 games AND get the Kings into the playoffs, I think he would deserve an opportunity to be the permanent head coach of the Kings.

IF the players respond and play hard for Corliss and they WIN big, he would be a very viable candidate for the permanent Head Coaching job this summer.
