[News] Connecticut Sun moving to Boston?

Probably good for the league. They average almost 9k fans per game though so that sucks for them. Much like it doesn't feel right after losing the Monarchs, Golden State got "our" expansion slot.

The difference, though, is that Connecticut wasn't a charter team in the league: they're an expansion franchise who stole their team from Orlando.
That's a fair point but they've been there over 20 years? I am not a league historian but they were on the verge of folding, no?

Not really, at least not since relocating from Orlando; they've basically been a tax write-off for the tribe.
No I meant in Orlando - they were basically about to fold? That was early days of the league - I recall MLS teams folding left and right in their first few years too. Of course the Maloof spin was Monarchs "had" to fold.

Seems like a good spot to jump back into these waters....

I'm not sure why people want to characterize Golden State taking anybody's expansion spot. Lacob made zero bones about getting into the W once he'd acquired the Warriors and had put plans in place to build his own building. That was always going to happen. He was also for sure higher up on the list than any other prospective ownership group. The bay was a prime media market. The fan base (and the money they've been willing to drop) has been an exceptional bonus. If the Kings had wanted in half as much as Lacob did, the Monarchs would have existed again by now. Then again, Ranadive also seemed to predicate getting the Monarchs restarted on him first getting the Kings back on track...so there's that...

I simply meant that Monarchs are almost never going to happen unless they get 24+ teams now that the Valkyries exist. That sucks.
