You know the feeling. You go to the theater to see a movie and before it starts you have to sit through the trailers for coming attractions. Sometimes they're okay but every once in a while they make you sit up and take notice.
Wednesday's game against the New Orleans Hornets was a "coming attraction" preview for the Sacramento Kings. All the scenes haven't been written and the final casting is yet to be determined, but the opening scenes have certainly been blocked out.
It hasn't been an easy time for Kings fans since the days of "THE TEAM." We couldn't even close the book on that chapter because of Tim Donaghy's pathetic attempt to lessen the punishment for his attempts to ruin the game we love. Just when we thought the wound was really beginning to heal, he opened it back up and poured in a ton of salt.
Now, though, we may finally be able to quit looking back. We can turn around and look to the future...for what we may be seeing is the beginning of something so bright we'll need to wear shades.
Jason Thompson, Donte Greene, Spencer Hawes and Bobby Brown. Four young players just starting out on what could be the journey of their (and our) lives. When you add in Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia and even John Salmons and Beno Udrih, you have a pretty strong cast. A few more actors in the mix, and who knows what heights we'll hit?
Yes, I'm optimistic. Yes, I'm even a bit giddy. I don't expect miracles and I don't expect this epic to hit the big screen in the near future. But it's on its way, fellow Kings fans. And I think it will be the talk of the town.
