Summary Box: Baseball agrees to tougher steroid testing

The Associated Press - Thursday, January 13, 2005

(01-13) 14:02 PST (AP) --

NEW DEAL: Players who test positive for steroids for the first time will be subject to a 10-day suspension. Under old agreement, they were sent for counseling. In Olympic sports, a first positive test results in a two-year ban.

AROUND THE WORLD: There will be random testing during the offseason for the first time, including outside the United States. NOT INCLUDED: No testing for amphetamines. No blood tests for Human Growth Hormone.

Let's see....direct evidence has been given that top players in the league have used steroids in the past to enhance their performances, said players have broken many records without penalty, and now that the horse is out of the barn they want to begin testing from this season on without addressing past transgressions and allowing the tainted records to stand. Simply amazing! The guys running this league for the last 15 years have destroyed all of it's integrity. I've completely lost all respect for the game and as far as I'm concerned real baseball ceased in 1990.
