Exactly my take. People who remember some of the crap Napear said about Webber after his injury in Dallas and went he tried to come back the next year, I think they might understand a little better where this might be coming from. This is the same Grant Napear who accused Bobby Jackson of faking an injury, remember?

I've always felt as though they've been quietly prepping to have Scot Pollard replace Jerry when the time comes what with his occassional guest commentary and recent increased presence in Kings stuff (ads for Back in Black promotions and Here We Rally)

Chris's actions on twitter aren't necessarily making me sympathize with him. I understand he's ticked off about things but at this point he's almost 40 years old, well past the age of behaving lie a petulant child.

Grant played a clip where he was talking to one of the TNT guys BEFORE the game, and the guy said how over breakfast that morning Chris Webber was briefing the entire TNT team on what was going on with the arena issue as he has been doing the research. Chris was the one who blew it, apparently. How he could screw it up so badly is the real question.
The guy Grant was talking to said how it was about 50/50 that an arena deal would get done, and Grant agreed with him saying something like "I would be surprised if it doesn't get done." And then the TNT folks get on the air and say how it would be a "miracle" to get it done, and they get the vote stuff wrong, they say KJ is just spinning the story when he straightens them out on the voting issue, etc. I mean, they just f***** up their whole show. The ONE time we have a national audience.
If Webber has that much dislike for Grant, then why come on the show? If there really is that much history there, why subject yourself to it? Better yet, why come on the show just to make yourself look like an a**? Why ask for the correct information and then not let anyone talk? Grant hit him with a serious question right off the bat, but he wasn't being a jerk about it, at least not in my eyes. I expect that from him. Webber obviously does, too, but then acts like he's been blindsided. Everyone gets on Grant's case about not always discussing the issues that they think are relevent or asking the hard questions. Then, when he does, he gets hammered for doing so.

He made a mistake. Verbally sparring with a ginger blowhard and then taking it to twitter aren't going to remedy it.
Earlier in the season, we were all talking about how Demarcus needed to look to Webber as a role model for how to conduct himself as a King... Now, I'm not so sure
Has nothing to do with being a petulant child. Grant pissed him off when he was ripping him behind his back and Chris was injured and fighting through the pain, and then he had to hear Grant's BS as well, and Grant lie to his face pretty much. My guess is he has been getting ready to have it out with Grant for a while now, and felt like Grant was going to ambush him just like the good old days so he finally got all that stuff off his chest. It wasn't really professional but I understand why he did it and don't blame him. He made a mistake about the arena thing but Grant could've done a better job approaching the subject too, and to be honest Grant kind've had it coming. Grant goes off on people all the time and people put up with it because they're used to him doing it, but that doesn't mean he's right or should get away with it. I know Chris was factually wrong, but I'm glad someone had the guts to say that stuff to Grant.
Demarcus needs to get a role model like Hakeem Olajuwon. But I think with the teammates Cousins has around him and the coaching staff he's going to be fine. He's already come a long way in a few months IMO.

It's ridiculous how so many are acting like it's Webber's duty to stay informed on every development with the arena. It's not. He has no obligation to Sacramento and the support that he does give is out of the goodness of his own heart. I didn't hear the show but if Grant came at Webber in a confrontational way about it, Webber had every right to be mad. It was an honest mistake and Webber doesn't owe Grant or anyone else an apology about it.
eh it wasn't really confrontational but he did kind of ambush him with it out of the blue.

no disrespect but did you listen to the interview? cwebb stated right after the question was asked that jodie told him fans wanted to talk to him and say some nice things to him because of the game last night. he went on the show to talk to the fans, not to be ambushed. now that the rise guys are gone, grant is pretty much the only local sports radio show where cwebb can go on and talk to kings fans.
you might not think grant was being a jerk about it, but there are better ways to fix the situation with pretty much our only ambassador to national tv. how about telling him what the correct info is and asking if he can mention it in his next tnt telecast? how about treating one of the greatest kings players a little more delicately instead of putting him on blast.

Grant is also retweeting posts that are bashing Webber. The whole thing is childish. Does Webb probably just need to stop talking? Yes. However, Webb is also probably feeling pretty hurt right now from some of the backlash that he's received from the "faithful" Kings fans. People calling in to Grant's show saying that Webb is nice as long as "your lips are on his ..." is just terrible. Calls and Tweets saying that this is Webb's true colors? Shameful, shameful, shameful. Honestly, this franchise probably would've been gone A LONG time ago if it wasn't for the success that Webb brought us.
Webb felt attacked tonight. Why? Because he was honored last night, because we beat the NBA's best, because there was excitement back in Sacramento. Yet the first idiotic words out of Grant's mouth? Questioning Webb's mistake. That would've pissed me off too, especially given Webb/Grant's history.

When it comes down to it, both sides were in the wrong here.
It's really just a shame that all of this "controversy" is taking away from the new, improved product on the court, where all of our attention as fans should rightfully be.

It is if he is a media person/commentator, just like it's the whole TNT crew's job to know about the single biggest issue surrounding the Kings right now.
I'm still generally siding with Chris in the Grant/Chris feud, but it definitely IS Chris's job to know what's going on with it. Just as it is Reggie Miller's, in that circumstance.
He could have easily corrected it on the air, but in my view appeared to vain to do so.
I don't however think that this is much of a problem for getting a deal done, if anything I think it might re-motivate people to get this thing together, and amplify the voices of the supporters who will be quick to correct this misinformation. Now, all the sudden people CLEARLY know that it's NOT a miracle type situation, and that things are close and going in the right direction (at least people in the Sac region who might follow local media/word of mouth).

It seems the whole TNT crew had it wrong, because Cheryl Miller didn't understand that the fail vote was good news for the arena either. You can't expect people who don't even live here to follow this every single day like we do. Their job is to know basketball, not politics. If folks are going to blame anyone, blame TNT for not prepping their crew well.

I think people are also ignoring what Webb said at the end...(paraphrase) "I apologize for anything I said Kings fans. You know I love you. But I'm not going to give this guy a chance on his show." He also said "This is how it's always been."
Obviuosly, ALOT of history between the two with an obvious lack of trust from Webb's end. Rightfully so, IMO. It's a shame Webb let his emotions get the best of him and now will be painted in a horrible light by Grant even more so. It's also a shame that Grant is the voice of this franchise.

I think a lot of nerves are on edge in local officialdom and among Kings nation. Can we blame "us" all after all the terrible headache of trying to get a new sports and entertainment facility for years - decades. Maybe it just bubbled to the top with TNT fiasco, and apparent ambush, over-reaction by Napear. Seems CWebb was inexplicably out of the loop last night, even dumb - but Napear should have handled it better. Perhaps waiting until near the end of interview (scolding) to discuss respectfully - rather than unload right off the top like a ranting child. Hopefully, we get some good news on the parking funding package and other partners (AIG, NBA, etc.) as far as what it's going to take to make March 1 a joyus day or at least a day we'll all still be breathing.

I think you've got something there. I am local. I did hear Grant responding to indignant callers saying he would definitely ask Webber thes questions and that the station had contacted Webber to set up a call to the show. I then took my groceries and went in the house. Missed all the action. I'm inclined to believe Napear before Chris. Just an observation. Let's move on. We have bigger fish to fry.

I think he came on as a favor, to try to help the arena situation...to get a little love, give a little love. (Is there a road somewhere having to do with good-intentions?) There was something about Grant's phrasing initially; said "you guys", something like "how did you guys get it so wrong". I wish CWebb would have handled it better, but I see how he could've been triggered esp. given the history.
Both of them are on the same side of the issue. An issue way bigger than both of them. They both sucked tonite. (though Grant sucked more!)

my god, The bias in this thread is amazing.
Warhawk pshn80 and eflat seem to be the only one with an unbiased grasp on the whole thing.
Grant admitted he should have phrased it better. I listened to the whole show from 3-7. Kevin Harlan yesterday mentioned how CWebb caught them up on the whole situation. On everything. Then we get the TNT broadcast. It was clear as day that Webb was misinformed on what happened at the city council. Webb even showed them the Railyards.
Jodi Bacon didn't ambush Webb at all. Shes a very respected producer on radio and television. The most likely situation is he wasn't paying attention to what she said.

I get that Webber and Grant haven't agreed over the years. I generally agree with Webber on their differences.
I respect Webber for everything he's done here. I have his jersey and have worn it to some of the City Council meetings, "Here We Stay" events, etc. I have no beef with Webber.
But I am putting all that aside and looking at this instance separately - what did TNT (including Webber) do and what did Grant do.
It is TNT's job to do a good broadcast - it is what they do and their chosen profession. And if they choose (CHOOSE!) to go in-depth on this issue on the air, they DAMN well better have their ducks in a row and their facts right. They could have just covered the game, given a brief mention of the arena situation in general ("Sacramento is trying to come up with a financing plan, we wish you luck!") and had KJ speak to the situation as he saw fit by asking some general questions and let him run with it for a minute or two. He's a smart man and good speaker, so he would do fine.
Instead, they get the facts 180 degrees incorrect, blast the mayor after he corrects them in an interview, and basically show no respect for our city at all by not even trying to paint an accurate picture of what is going on.
I (and none of us here) know exactly what the conversation was off the air before he went on with Grant. It is he said / he said right now. But Grant asked a pretty tough question right off the bat and it seemed to just throw Webber into a tailspin. I didn't think Grant was a jerk about it, just very direct. He could have been nicer or asked a different question first, but I don't think it was out of line for a sportscaster in the local area to get to the point when they were so far out of line in the entire broadcast they did last night. Webber acted like an a** in reply. That's on Webber, not Grant. I'm not here supporting Grant; I view his actions as "neutral" in this.
Edit: and Grant tried REPEATEDLY to discuss the issue with Webber and asked him REPEATEDLY not to hang up. He wanted to get the right info out and get the facts straight. Webber talked over Grant the whole time and then hung up. How is that Grant's fault?

And said that Kevin Martin needed to try to play with a wrist that was later found to be broken. Martin went to his man Amick, who killed grant on the front page of the sports section. So when Martin was traded grant crapped all over him and still does.
A lot of fans love grant, but a lot hate him, which colors how they view the team. It's poor business decision to have him as the face of the franchise ... But that's why they are the maloofs
Hey, I agree that Grant tends to paint a biased picture of things and frequently/mostly represents the Kings organization's "view" on things. I don't care for him personally but his show does have the interviews with players, coaches, etc., so it is where we can get our Kings info as long as you can use your brain and filter through some of the bias/junk when it seeps in.
I just think that in this case, he doesn't appear to be in the wrong. I don't think he's "right" - I just think he is more neutral in this matter. But I also think he did the right thing by asking the question he did - it was timely and warranted. He could have phrased it better though.

i think you answered your last question with your second sentence. like other have stated this has probably been brewing for awhile between cwebb and grant.
i see your point of view on tnt dropping the ball and agree they messed up. they should correct it. but i personally dont like how grant went about it. he wanted it corrected. but like the saying goes, you will attract more flies with sugar than vinegar. dont attack him on live radio, especially when you have a history. how about telling him off the air what he did wrong and ask him if he can fix it on air next time he is on? he has used on air time to have his say about sac before, i dont see why he cant do it again. did grant want to get it fixed or call webber out? because if you really want it fixed, i dont think this is the way to go about it
i agree no one knows for sure what was said off the air to get chris on the call but going off the interview and logic. why would cwebb miss a flight and go on the air with someone he has had problems with and get blamed for a mistake he made on tv? his side of the story makes more sense. he was in a meeting, heard that kings fans wanted to show love on the air. he was so happy about the win last night and the love he got from the fans as well as the jersey, that he will put aside his differences with grant to go on the air to speak with his fans. now im not saying that's what happened, i just believe that his side makes more sense
