Buzzmaster: (12:57 PM ET ) Chad will be here any minute!
Chad Ford: (1:00 PM ET ) Hey everyone ... things are really heating up. Guys are going crazy as the trade deadline approaches ... let's tackle the rumors
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Angelo (Philly): Hey Chad! Will the Sixers be making any more trades? If so, what do you expect.
Chad Ford: (1:03 PM ET ) They just did. They just swapped Glenn Robinson for Jamal Mashburn and Rodney Rogers. Mashburn will likely retire for injury reasons ... so .... this is really for Rodney Rogers. Insurance will pay most of Mashburn's deal this season.
Overall, I think the Sixers did a great job. The gave up nothing important and added two important pieces in Webber and Rogers. What's not to like?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Todd (Tucson): Chad, how does the Webber deal work financially? Doesn't C-Webb make more than the 3 Sixers combined?
Chad Ford: (1:04 PM ET ) No and that's the amazing thing. The Sixers were able to send out $61 million worth of contracts while taking back a little over $62 million. Sure, there's a risk that Webber doesn't last the full three years, but when you consider what they gave up, it was worth the risk.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matt (Cleveland, OH): Do you think Jiri Welsch will help the Cavs in the perimeter shooting dept.? (They said the same thing about Luscious Harris). Do you see them making another move before the deadline?
Chad Ford: (1:05 PM ET ) I like Jiri Welsch but he's not a great perimeter shooter, especially from three. He has more of a mid-range game.
Chad Ford: (1:06 PM ET ) I don't think they're done dealing. With news coming out of Milwaukee that Michael Redd (the Cavs big off-season target) now intends to re-sign with the Bucks after this season, the Cavs are getting proactive. I'm hearing that the Cavs and Raptors are talking about a trade that would send Donyell Marshall to Cleveland for Dajuan Wagner, DeSagana Diop and Sasha Pavlovic. It's not done, but they are talking.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frank(Boston, MA): What is wrong with Danny Ainge? Does he have any idea what he's doing? Couldn't he have gotten more for Welsch?
Chad Ford: (1:07 PM ET ) Remember when Danny used to say that getting Welsch was the big bonus in the Antoine Walker for Raef LaFrentz swap. Now Ainge has given away Welsch and is trying to reaquire Walker. Ugh.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zoran (Toronto): Do you think there is still a chance of Stojakovic being traded?
Chad Ford: (1:08 PM ET ) No. The Kings made this trade for Peja. He was unhappy with Webber both on and off the court. My guess is that the two sides ultimately agree to an extension now. That's what this trade was about Kings fans ... making sure the franchise held onto Peja. Had they been unable to move Webber, they might have been forced to trade Peja.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tim (San Jose, CA): Are the Warriors going to make a deal for Baron Davis? Besides Davis' back and assorted injuries, what is the possible problem or sticking point?
Chad Ford: (1:10 PM ET ) The two sides are still talking. What I've heard is that the Warriors are also discussing another deal (sorry, I don't have the details) and they are still working things out. I know Davis' contract is a sticking point. The Warriors may be looking to unload so long term salaries before they take him on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris(Boston): Couldn't the Kings have gotten much more for Webber?
Chad Ford: (1:11 PM ET ) From who? Few teams would be willing to swallow that deal. While I'm surprised the Kings didn't get a prospect or at least Glenn Robinson's expiring deal, my guess is that this is the best they could do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aaron (Neenah, WI): Chad, you say "Redd now intends to re-sign with the Bucks", but he's been saying that all along, is there anything out there that makes it sound like Redd is off the table completely?
Chad Ford: (1:14 PM ET ) I have sources that now say that they believe Redd is off the table now. My source on the Cavs believes the same thing which partly explains the Welsch trade.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew (Northboro, MA): At 3pm today, will Paul Pierce still be a Celtic?
Chad Ford: (1:15 PM ET ) I just talked to Pierce's agent. It sounds like he's staying in Boston ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason (Tacoma): Any news on the Sonics?
Chad Ford: (1:18 PM ET ) Nothing so far. From what I hear, it sure sounds like Allen and Radmanovic are staying put. Flip Murray may be on the move ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steven New York: Are the Knicks going to make any big moves today?
Chad Ford: (1:20 PM ET ) I'm told that Isiah is working on a smaller deal. I don't know the specifics and it's unclear whether it will get done. Sorry this is so vauge, but info is just trickling in right now and I can't discuss specifics int he chat until I get them confirmed. If I hear anything before the end of the chat, I'll let you know.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mark (Toronto, ON): What's up with Babcock? Are deals not out there to be made or is he gunshy? I gotta think with the deals Philly made, someone in the East must be willing to pony up for Donyell or Eric Williams ie. The Heat
Chad Ford: (1:41 PM ET ) I think after the rough treatment Babcock has gotten over the Vince Carter trade, he's very afraid to make a mistake with Donyell. Ironically, he's asking teams for much more with Donyell than he was for Vince. That may be why, at the end of the day, he doesn't get a deal done.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan (Indianapolis, IN): Are the Minnesota Timberwolves going to get rid of either, Sam Cassell or Latrell Sprewell? If not, can you encourage them to do so?
Chad Ford: (1:42 PM ET ) They have been trying for months ... good luck.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin Las Vegas, NV: Do you see any last minute deals for the Suns?
Chad Ford: (1:53 PM ET ) No. Just talked to them. Nothing going on. Want to keep the group together. They fell confident they can re-sign Joe Johnson in the summer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin (Salisbury): Latest news on Kwame Brown....does he have a chance to be shipped out???
Chad Ford: (1:56 PM ET ) Looks like he's staying in Washington for the rest of the year. If he stays healthy, he could be a valuable player for teh Wizards.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eric (albany): Chad....don't teams like the Hawks and Hornets realize that, even though all there moves are to free up cap space, nobody of great value wants to play for them?
Chad Ford: (1:57 PM ET ) No. Bad teams never learn that. They get all excited about the cap room only to find that they either have to overpay or be the fourth or fifth option for most top tier free agents.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott (Boston): Will Antoine Walker going to be moved today?
Chad Ford: (1:58 PM ET ) It doesn't sound like it. Just talked to his (frustrated) agent. Sounds like Walker is stuck for the season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jerry (Honolulu): Anything regarding the Nuggets?
Chad Ford: (2:00 PM ET ) Sounds like nothing. Talked with them a few minutes ago and they said everything was quiet.
Chad Ford: (2:03 PM ET ) Sorry the chat was delayed by technical issues. Nothing else to report right now. One hour left before the trade deadline. We'll keep working the phones. Thanks for coming.
