[News] Celtics trade Jrue to Blazers for two seconds and Simons

I like it for both teams. Boston gets an asset they can flip at the deadline, 2 second round picks and big time savings. Portland gets serious about winning and helps Scoot grow. The Blazers could make the playoffs.
 
Like this for BOS. I love Jrue, but he took a noticeable step back and he's only going to keep declining. I guess from the perspective of clearing room for Scoot, it's solid.
 
Weird thing is I don't like this move for either team, who I'd rate as my second and third favorite teams, though there's a big dip from the Kings to Boston.

Yeah, the Kings twitter personalities have found out it's become far more popular to dig the Kings at every turn rather than.. you know.. actual basketball analysis.

The best part is if the Kings had traded Monk for Jrue (similar to Simons), he'd be talking about how we always lose value, how old Jrue is, how it isn't enough, etc. Not how we got "stronger"
 
I like it less for Portland than I would for the Kings. On Sac, yes, Jrue would be expensive, but he'd be stepping in to a team ready to use exactly his playmaking and defensive skills to complement a potent offense with a couple of all-star pieces. He would be a this-year piece. On Portland...I feel like by the time they're actually ready to compete Jrue will be on the tail end of that contract and his career. I just can't see the Blazers threatening right now. Play-in, maybe, but Jrue is a costly piece to hope to push into the play-in.

Ayton comes off the books soon so I don’t think they are in trouble cap wise. If they can move off Grant their sheet is pretty clean. Basically they get a Chris Paul level tutor for their most important piece in exchange for a guy they didn’t want to re-sign and couple second rounders.

Really good deal for Boston considering their goals.

Portland too. They were pretty tough defensively last season so I’d imagine this makes them even tougher.

Don't like it for either of us but Portland really wanted to move Ant. They had a few guys they expected to sell at the deadline but found no takers and he was at the top of the list. The guys we need to move I'm hopeful we can get some draft capital rather than a 1-year player.

Ayton could look pretty good with Holiday in pick and roll. Much better fit than with Domas if Holiday can go back to producing numbers. IF they shine up Ayton never know, they might be able to flip him.
 
Simons is a microwave scorer and getting a young player with perhaps a little bit of upside isn't a bad investment for the Celtics since next season will be a down year. Pricey tag for the Blazers to pay to just be a 9th or 10th seed
 
Here’s what I appreciate about what Portland’s doing. They’ve stayed patient since off loading Dame and CJ, they’ve defined a vision around defense and size, they have a coach who regardless of what you think underscores that identity, all while a managing a roster where it felt like half the starters were out half the season. They now need to figure out how to offload Grant and eventually Ayton, but roster makes a lot of sense.

At the end of the day, their offense will revolve around Avidja who came on strong in the back half and had a bunch of triple doubles. Scoot and Sharpe will only get better with Simons out of the picture. I could see them competing for a 6 seed
