i'm wondering if some kings fans may finally be convinced that we traded the wrong guy. i was damn near in tears (figuratively speaking) hearing webb talk about how he thought the kings might have had another run at a championship this season. that may be delusional thinking, even though the west isnt quite as strong as it was last season, but that is exactly what you want from your players. you want that hunger to win a championship. you want that blind loyalty to the team and the ultimate goal. webber is a true warrior (ron artest only wishes he had the heart of a champion like c-webb).

i have never been more convinced that the kings made a huge mistake trading webber, and i have been condemning the move from minute one. i have also never been more convinced that peja needs to go. a lot of that is spite talking, but i think its valid spite. as a fan, i feel cheated that the kings traded away the one guy who wanted to bring a championship to sacramento more than anything, andi feel even more cheated by the fact that we traded him in favor of a player who could care less if a championship ever came to sacramento. peja's indifference has not simply become an annoyance. its a frustrating, aggravating, and teeth-grinding subject for me at this moment. as a kings fan, when i talk about peja these days, normally a slew of four-letter words escapes my mouth. as far as i'm concerned, he can walk his one-dimensional *** to any team who'll take him in the off season. i don't even care if we get back value for him anymore, because i can't honestly say i believe he has much value to the kings anymore.
 
Chris is a class act. It's good to see him happy and doing so well. Boy, do I miss him and his gorgeous smile.

oh...and i get to go to the kings/sixers game on jan. 3rd!!! i would be lying if i said that i don't hope chris webber has one of his best games of the season on the 3rd. he has a penchant for working over his former teams. as a kings fan, i would still like to see the kings get some W's and climb their way up to .500, but i really do wanna see webb dominate shareef. i can't help myself. i don't care if this makes me a "bad fan," but kings management needs to see first hand that they made a HUGE mistake in trading the guy who cared the most about bringing that ugly-*** nba championship trophy to sacramento.
 
Nice little segment. He wouldn't say anything negative towards our city or team. Even with the other guys wanting him to.

It's a sad thing, but I have to agree with you. I don't hate Peja and I don't think it's necessarily all his fault, but if there really was a supposed rift in our locker room, (and to me it seemed something was there) with Bobby, Doug, Mike, and Chris on one side and Vlade and Peja on the other it seems to me we may have picked the wrong guy. I deep in my heart knew the effect that Webbers leaving would have on Mike and Pejas game as well as the rest of the team and their overall ability to win ball games... but I really hoped and tried to believe that those two guys could step up and keep this team winning basketball games, it hasn't happened. When I see Phillys offense click the way they are it makes me depressed. Without the movement of the ball the team just isn't as exciting to watch, not to mention they've gone from a .600 team to a .400 since the trade. They have been left with all of their weaknesses, and none of their strengths. Once again Bad trade, and it's only going to get more obvious as this season goes along.

I think what has happened this year says much more about the collective ineffectiveness of the core players than it does about Webber. Besides the Kings completely unproductive bench, the Big 3 just haven't played well...period!

Two years ago the team had one of their best stretches of basketball with Webber sitting on the bench in street clothes. Then Miller, Bibby, and Peja were playing well. Obviously Vlade and Christie also had a lot to do with that. Now those three lack consistency and effort on most nights.

I agree with you about many of the things you said. Obviously Vlade, Doug and Chris and their passing had more to do with this team winning than any of us thought. It's just that even with Vlade gone we were still winning, and the offense was putting up 103 and 25 a night. They weren't as good without him, but still fun to watch and still competitive. The big 3 have been a huge dissapointment this year, but they weren't last year even when Vlade was gone, Bobby was injured early, and Doug was traded. I have to say I still think, they were still a way better team even at that point than they are now, mostly because Mike, Brad, and Peja were all even better players than they normally were with Webb still here. It was that way right up till Feb 23rd. The impact that trade had, and is having on this team is getting more obvious with each passing game. Look for Philly to really go on a run in the next couple of weeks, just like we used to... for us, I really no longer know what to look for. Tangibles and intangibles it's so easy to see what this team lost, definately because of ALL the guys you mentioned, but only one of them is playing better every day now and has played in all 26 games for his team this year.
 
Glad Webber came here. Glad he played well for us for a couple of seasons. Glad he's gone.

1. I would trade almost our whole team for either the Cavs or the Bulls. Neither are spectacular, but the futures are there.

2. The Webb trade was a clear mistake. You can't put numbers on what it means to have a leader, a face of the franchise. More than anything this year, with guys playing below potential and expectations, I've seen a team without a heart, without an identity. I saw it tonight, and he was sitting in a studio on TNT!

I totally agree. I'm going to go to my Jerry Jones analogy one more time, but gosh darnit, you ride the horses who brought you there. Webber made this franchise. I know he has a HUGE contract, and it's a business, but you stay loyal to the guy. It hurt to watch the Triplets slowly fade away, and then have abrupt career-ending injuries (aside from Smith). But every guy who should have retired a Cowboy, did. Even Smith, who finally became a cap casualty, retired a Cowboy. Jones' loyalty, and more important his HORRIBLE drafting, led to 5-6 years of ineptitude, but trading off the stars wasn't going to speed up the rebuilding process. Franchises go in cycles. That's how it is. Unless you're Red Auerbach robbing the league blind in trades every year, there's going to be some down time. The Maloofs and Petrie throwing Chris under the bus is something I won't forget, or forgive. We never got to say goodbye to these guys, and that really sticks in my craw.
 
As I said at the time of the trade, Petrie should have never made that deal without at least getting either Iguoadala or Dalembert; he got swindled.

Doubt Philly would have done it in that case, but at the time I remember hearing about the deal and assuming it was for Dalambert and Mashburn's contract. Which would have made sense.

No question Thomas, Williamson, and Skinner have not done a whole lot for us. But before we start talking about Webber as if he would have been the answer to all of our prayers, maybe we should wait to see if his knees last the season.
 
Chris is a class act, and playing some great *offensive* ball right now. To say Artest doesn't have the heart of a warrior, well that would be like saying Bonzi doesn't have the heart of a warrior. Artest is just a bit misguided. Much like a young Chris Webber was.
 
I miss Chris... Damn Iverson got chris there, it was the trade deadline. If Webb was still here we might not've got owned in the 1st round by seattle and we wouldn't be below .400 right now. Man Geoff was a moron! Webber was everything here, peja is nothing more than a pillow, and he chose the pillow.


Happy for Chris though.
 
The thing about Webb is he loved this team, and he believed in this team. Even looking at what the Kings are doing now, he believes that they could have made a run for it if the team was still intact. Is he totally realistic? Maybe not, but the passion & heart he shows is enormous. I hated this trade from the start, and I really believe the Maloofs and/or Petrie really underestimated the effect that losing Webb would have on this team. I've said it before (and I'm sure I'll say it again) but Webb's stats are just part of what he brought to this team. He brought leadership, passion, and an identity for this team in the media. He brought national recognition. He brought .... oh well, I'm getting off track.

I think what I'm trying to say is I miss him! :o And I miss the team we were when he was here. I love the Kings, and they will always be my team, but "that" Kings team will always have a special place in my heart.
 
I think what upsets me is the fact that at the time C-Webb was traded he was playing very good basketball in Sac. Why couldnt GP get something better for him? I would have rather had him stay but for goodness sakes get something decent in return.
