Reigning NFL MVP Tom Brady left Sunday's game against Kansas City after being hit on the left leg, and the New England Patriots sounded pessimistic about the prognosis for the the quarterback who last year led them to a 16-0 regular season.

Brady is scheduled for an MRI on Monday.

Although no test results had yet to be revealed, one Patriots player went so far as to tell ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer after the game, "Cassel's our quarterback for the rest of the year."

Heard on the Rise Guys this morning it looks like he's out for the year with ligament damage or something (didn't catch it all), so if you are a Patriots fan or he's on your fantasy team.......oooops.

I guess because its week 1 it just doesn't sting like the super bowl after the 18-0 start. It will just be like this season never happened, or perhaps they will sneak into the playoffs thanks to being in a weak division and Brady will make a miracoulous return. 9-7 with a Super Bowl win would be a dream season.

Well, Brady isn't returning because they put him on IR (which automatically ends your season in the NFL), and while the division is weak, the Jets opened up with a win, so... the Patriots chances of making the playoffs revolve around Matt Cassel pulling a Tom Brady, circa 2001. The problem is that the defense is old and the running game is lacking.

However, this does suck for the Patriots and their fans. It sucks for the NFL, too. How many nationally televised games do the Patriots have this season? Week 9 isn't the event we always hope it will be, when the Colts play the Pats. Too bad.

Yeah, I did not have comfirmation on the IR designation when I posted that.

It still comes down to perspective, this season was going to be very painful no matter what, it was Super Bowl win or bust, and every win was relatively meaningless except that one. Now I can just sit back and enjoy whatever happens. If this had happened midway through what was shaping up to be another successful season I'd be a lot more devastated.

Yeah, but....

Just kidding. Hope Matt Cassel shows what the world has been missing these past eight years. I hear he has a pretty good arm.

Matt Cassel played with the first team quite a bit in the pre-season. He didn't produce squat. The Pats are done. Their defense is the only thing that gives them hope at times, and a possibly lucky throw to Moss.

It's never good to see someone get injured. But I hate the Patriots so it's gonna be good to see THEM go down. Best of luck to Brady on the recovery though

GO CHARGERS!!!!
