BOO to KXTV-10

Shame, shame, shame on KXTV-10 for their ABYSMAL coverage - or lack thereof - of the half-time ceremony at Arco. They talked over most of it, and then cut to part of Ruthie's speech.

So, congratulations to you, Ruthie Bolton. Even if the producer at ch. 10 didn't think it was worth covering, and used his talking bozos to recap the game instead, I salute you!!!

First off: MIGHTY RUTHIE, mighty Ruthie, RUTHIE BOLTON, Ruthie Bolton! Congrats #6, you deserve it!

Secondly, I am surprised they even showed that much. They went way over the time limit. Krista kept talking, and talking.....and talking. :D

On the game:

- Good game, strong second half, but sometimes you just have to look at the basics. If my memory serves me correct the M's had only 4 assists at half, and ended the game at I believe 20+. Sometimes its just as simple as that. To quote that new NY coach, "Playing the game the right way" and the Monarchs do indeed know how to do that.

-I don't know if its done consciously, or its just because its who she is, but big props to Yo for stepping up and providing what this team needs especially in the absence of Demaya.

-I am convinced they (stats people) are robbing Becky Brunson of rebounds and blocks.

-Last notes: I like to think I have been to some pretty memorable basketball games in my lifetime, but this one definitely is now in my Top 10. The half-time video tribute was awesome and you really can't say enough about Ruthie. Koz said it best, this afternoon was bitter sweet.

P.S. GO NY!

It was a great atmosphere at Arco today.

As far as the "Ruthie" tribute, it was very nice and classy just like her, just like the Maloofs. Yes, Krista did talk a little long. If Ruthie is "Ms. Monarchs", Jerry Reynolds is "Mr. Monarchs". He is just a great guy.

The game was probably one of the best the team played all season. Outside of both Detroit games, both home LA games and the last Houston game, this ranked right up there.

1. Excellent offensive execution (although they shot under 40 percent)

2. Strong inside presence both offensively and definsively

3. Ticha clearly outplayed Bird and was in charge from the jump, and Yo outplayed Jackson and showed that she clearly should be considered the WNBA MVP.

4. Whisnant is slowly developing a playoff rotation. The starters and Lawson will be counted on for a majority of the 40 minutes.

5. Lawson's got her groove on.

MAIN CONCERN
1. When Yolanda Griffith is off of the floor and OSR is on, there is such a noticable drop off. I hope D. Walker comes back soon.

Of all the things that were said for (and to) Ruthie today, the one thing that really had the tears rolling down my cheeks was this comment by Joe Maloof, "If...I mean when we when the championship this year, the first ring goes to this girl right here."

Yes, it was a wonderful tribute to Ruthie and her tears sure began to roll in earnest when the banner of her jersey was unfurled up in the rafters right next to Jerry Reynolds. If the women have to wait 5 years after retirement (like the men do) for inclusion into the Hall of Fame, then I expect to hear about Ruthie's inclusion in about 4 more years. :)

The game was fantastic. The officiating was ridiculous at times, but I have come to accept that certain teams/specific players will always get away with hooking and over the back fouls. 2/3 of the way through the second half when we had 7 team fouls, the Storm only had 1 (called that is). I had Lauren Jackson with 7 fouls for instance, and the refs called 2. *sigh*

The Monarchs really really took care of the ball. I have to go look, but I am thinking there were only about 6 turnovers by the M's while they must have forced close to 3 times that many by Seattle.

This team is championship calibre. Now, they just have to go out and take it. Keep up the hard work, Monarchs, and it really could pay off for you....BIG TIME!!

The tribute to Ruthie was just awesome. She has done so much for the franchise and the community. I'm glad she's still around!!!!

As far as the game, great hustle by all. That play by Ticha right before the half was just too funny. Throwing the ball at Batovich's back, catching it, then scoring......It's on wnba.com as a highlight play for those who didn't see it....A thing of beauty. Yo was just in a zone....she couldn't miss. That was nice to see although I would've liked to see her get a little more rest. One thing that was mentioned in an earlier post, you can't tell me the Monarchs were the only team fouling in the 2nd half, we were in the bonus and they had 2.......................puh-leeeezzzeee....You can't tell me Jackson, Burse and Batovich weren't hooking elbows, grabbing jerseys, and throwing hips and shoulders...... On the plus side, Bird had ZERO assists...yes that's right, go Chelsea, Ticha, Kristen, and Kara!!!! Also, Maiga did a decent job on Jackson considering their height difference.

Gotta love it:

That tribute for Ruthie was tremendous as was the Bolton rendition of the National Anthem......

Nancgo...that was my thought EXACTLY.....I mean seriously, the fouls were even (unless you count the ridiculous isolation of Newton for Monarchs' fouls in the first half) and both teams were in the penalty in the first half, then in the 2nd half the Storm go nearly half of the half before they even pick up a foul? I still saw their post players climbing over the back of Monarchs players (which apparently is no longer a foul :\) and hooking.

I'll concur that this was one of their better executed games...Ticha was completely in a zone and out of her mind yesterday. When she took the ball off the opening possession and went strong for a layup I figured she had notched the game up....little did I know how much she turned the crank....What I also liked yesterday was the chess match that Whisenant and Donovan were playing with one another in terms of personnel moves. I didn't notice too much of a drop off with OSR, she's not out there really to score so I guess I don't have that expectation from her...I thought she grabbed some great rebounds and cleared space for Powell and the guards to take that shot at the top of the circle. What I've also noticed about her, is that she does understand where people are supposed to be moving to in the offense because I often times she her directing people when she's on the offensive end of the floor. But she served her purpose yesterday in letting Yo and Brunson take a little bit of time off the floor.

It was VERY good, speaking of DeMya to see her neither in that brace nor on crutches yesterday, and maybe walking a lot more comfortably than I expected to see her considering how she looked on Thursday night. If they can get her to where she can give them 10-15 minutes a night in the playoffs that would not be a bad thing.

I still have my doubts that we can get by Seattle without Walker (although having HCA definitely swings things in our favor), but I'd be ecstatic if we could have her back by the Finals.
