Blockbuster trades, the aftershock

Since this forum is about trades and the blockbuster AI trade has been floating about, I thought about the past few seasons and how the Kings made two blockbuster trades and one smaller trade during the middle of those seasons.

And how all those trades really changed little, for either team involved.

The first was Christie for Mobley. This was defense for offense and both players were gone from their respective teams soon after. Change: little

Webber for the Philly trio. This was the first blockbuster, it was supposed to be the move that made Philly a contender and finally get AI the other superstar he needed. It was supposed to be us rebuilding or getting contracts that were easier to move. We were a middling 8th seed sort of team, Philly was another middling to bad team in a weak conference.

Now Phlly never became a contender, Webber and AI didn't mix, we didn't really rebuild and we still have 2 out of the 3 contracts and noone wants them. And Philly with AI is another middling team in a weak conference, but since he's being held out they are the worst team in a weak conference. And the Kings? Middling.. 8th seed hopefuls. Change: None

Peja for Artest. This trade had the most drama and wasn't as unexpected as the Webber deal. This deal was supposed to work for both teams and at first it did. Come the next season though, both teams are about the same again and Indiana doesn't even have Peja anymore. Change: soem at first, little in end

So, would a big trade really help the Kings at this point? Mid-season moves seem to be quick fixes that don't pan out.

Depends on if you fill a weakness or not. If you get a shotblocker than yes it will fill a whole in your team and it will make a permanent difference. The Peja for Artest trade did make a difference, we'd be horrible with Peja instead of Ron right now(even more than we are). But there are other circumstances, like Bibby being this season's Peja or the new coach or the fact that teams are now exploiting our softness in the PF/C spots, or the fact that teams make an effort to go at Bibby because he's a horrible defender, or the injuries, or Ron's back, or the offense(oops I mean lack thereof).

Totally agree, all those were quick-fix moves trying to keep us competitive short-term. Not horrible trades, but in the long-term teams shoot themselves in the foot trying to do that, more often than not. And so we have.
