Bjelica DNP CD?

It's become pretty clear that Bagley is rapidly developing into our primary bench scorer, and frankly one of our top scorers overall. Bjelica doesn't really fit the identity of our team with the super fast pace we run at. With the huge strides Marvin has made, Joerger has got to see that he's easily worthy of absorbing the majority of minutes at the PF spot at this point, whereas earlier he was seeing limited time while he was trying to adjust to the NBA.

This isn't to say Bjelica is going to get DNP CD all the time now. He'll still get some run depending on the matchup. But Bagley is the guy.

I'm not convinced Belly doesn't give the team a better chance of winning than 15 minutes of Brewer or Giles or Burks, but I understand the occasional matchup issues, and the importance of developing the youngsters.

I'm guessing he was told that he wouldn't play for the next X amount of games to get a feel for the new guys, and he'll find a spot again. Maybe he isn't the 25 minutes a night beast we saw at the start, but he is too good a player to sit the rest of the season.

It's kind of weird really.

Once they went small I thought Giles was gonna get squeezed, but it ended up being Bjelica. He regards Giles as nothing but a 5 right now, and I guess he views Bjelica as nothing but a 4. We've seen Bjelica and Bagley together a tiny bit, but really not that much, meaning he also views Bagley as a 4/5 but tending to the 4 most of the time and he wasn't gonna squeeze Bagley out for Bjelica.

He has a history of not really favoring the players in Bjelica's mold, anyway.

Not athletic enough for our new identity. Was always a stop gap measure. I agree he might be serviceable over Giles in spot minutes but Giles is a big part of our future and bjelly hasnt been hitting from outside to force the issue

I think Joeger is trying to integrate Burks into the rotation. If he doesn’t show much soon, I can see Bjelica getting his minutes off the bench at small forward.

I think Bjelica ideal role is a bench stretch 4. But he may need to find time at back up small forward to get some minutes, with Bagley solidifying the back up power forward now.

But he doesn't start, so that's a moot point.

And yet he's been starting all season long with that super fast paced team? You aren't making any sense.

Not sure how him starting or not makes my statement a moot point. We are talking about Bjelica getting a DNP CD. Not a DNS (Did Not Start) CD. I'm just saying Bagley has been absorbing a lot of the minutes usually given to Bjelica.

Also, yes he's been starting with the team the whole year, but that doesn't necessarily mean he fits the scheme. You play the cards you are dealt. After picking up Barnes and with the emergence of Bagley, we've been dealt a new hand.

This is what depth looks like, Kings fans. It is a league of matchups, and not everyone can play in every game. Useful players get squeezed out of rotations sometimes. It’s a good problem to have when serviceable talents are underutilized because the depth chart and style of play dictate it, especially when your cap sheet isn’t bloated as a result of that depth.

I think it's as simple as Joerger is trying to improve our defense. The death knell for Bjelica was when we traded for Barnes. Out goes Bjelica at PF and in goes Barnes, at least to start the games. I think Joerger got tired of seeing the opposition waltzing down the lane for easy baskets when Willie had to switch in the pick and roll, and no one (Bjelica) came over to guard the lane. At least three times last night, when Willie switched, and did a show on Westbrook, Barnes rotated over and stopped the pick and roll.

Of course when Paul George got two easy baskets shooting over Bog's, they brought in Bagley at the PF position, and then Barnes switched to George. George ended the day with 14 pt's on 19 shots, and 5 of those points were on Bag's. Our overall defense has improved with Bjelica on the bench and Barnes on the floor. That's not to say that there won't be times when Bjelica will be on the floor. But too many nights he was a liability on defense, and would end up the night with 5 or 6 pt's. You can live with poor defense from a player that's putting up 15 to 20 pts a night, but not 5 or 6 pt's
