Bill Simmons about the Kings

First, I have a scoop for you: A well-placed source tells me that Isiah Thomas is prepared to trade Channing Frye and Penny Hardaway to Denver for Kenyon Martin and Earl Watson, but only if Martin agrees to an MRI on his surgically repaired knee. If Martin's knee is in good shape, the Knicks are calling off the deal. If the knee is in rough shape, the deal is on. If the knee is in such terrible shape that the doctor says something like, "Wow, there's a good chance K-Mart might walk with a limp for the rest of his life," the Knicks will throw in an unconditional No. 1 in 2009 as well as Nate Robinson and $3 million dollars. So stay tuned.

In the meantime, here's another look at the NBA's "Big Picture," where I count down all 30 teams from "worst chance of winning the title" to "best chance of winning the title." I'll even separate them into categories for you. Without further ado...

14. Sacramento
Another tentative ranking: Even though they're 20-27, once they get everyone healthy, would you want any part of these guys in a short series this spring? Oh, wait, the NBA dumped the five-game series in Round One; the concept was too exciting. I forgot.

(And just for the record, I first pushed for the Peja-Artest trade in my annual "Top 40 NBA Trade Value" column from 2004, a good four months before Chad Ford pushed for the same trade. So I get ESPN.com bragging rights on this one.

Anyway, I liked the deal more for the Kings: Artest gives them the best defensive stopper in the conference, someone who can cover everyone from Kobe to Ginobili to Brand. They had a "first round and out" ceiling before the trade; now they have an "anything's possible" ceiling. And I mean, anything. Right down to Artest fighting the Maloof Brothers to the death in the old "Real World" suite at the Palms.)

idiot...

I love Bill Simmons (helps having lived in Boston when he was coming up through the ranks). What's funny is despite the sarcastic humor he is usually spot on about everything putting the Vesceys and Smiths to shame, the John Stewart of the sports world if you will.

Short series or long, I suspect that the top teams and their fans are all hoping we miss the playoffs.

Bill Simmons has been my favorite sports writer for the past couple of years, his humour is is very similar to that of mine and my friends. I also concur that he usually is pretty right on when he talks about something, it is because he is a fan first and a writer second, so he takes the fan part of his brains and translates that to paper without thought of the backlash from the people he is taking about.

Isah Thomas said to Steven A. the other day that is he ever runs into Bill SImmons, there is going to be a problem, and look simmons is ripping him again a week later.

im praying that we make the playoffs and end up with phoenix in the first round.... then we would get the winners of the 3-6 series which would be the nuggets/jazz or grizzlies... we can take em......

go kings....

sure....provided that 1)the Kings make the playoffs 2)Phoenix somehow gets a 1 or 2 seed past SA or Dallas who are both rolling 3)the Kings somehow beat Phoenix in a seven game series

seems like a lot to hope for in IMO

Of course Phoenix will get the 2 seed. The clippers won't pass them and the northwest division sucks. I hope we can get the 7th seed, we need NOK and LAL to slip. The last one could happen, but NOK is lookin like a pretty solid team. A matchup of Sac/Phx would open up a lot of possibilities for us though.

Bill Simmons is entertaining, but like Charles Barkley, don't take him too seriously. It's a good read though, I got a few laughs out of it.

gives me chills, actually...that if we actually squeek into the playoffs, we will really be hitting our stride hopefully, and will be in full a** kicking mode...Sactown's Bad Boys, led by Ron, will be dishing out da' pain!;)

NOTE: I forgot to add the title, it was an oversight. The readers of this forum are smart enough to make a judgement on this article. If this is drivel, in your opinion, then there is no need to push your thoughts, however (ir)relevant it maybe, down people's throat. I hope you can understand. Thank you.

If by some great miracle the Kings do slip by to get the 8th seed, maybe we will get to see another Cinderella story like the Steelers...

Point taken. I should not have used the word drivel, since the purpose of my comment was solely to remind people to post the titles.

Mea culpa.

That's classy of you, VF21. I moderate three forums myself, I can understand the slip. Have a nice day!
