Scenario 1: Cleveland
It's been oft mentioned here that the Cavs would be a team that could definitely use a Mike Bibby as a potential piece to put them over the top. The only problem was that they really didn't have the right pieces that would interest the Kings and make a deal work.
Well, according to this article, it seems the Cavs have a $2.1 million trade exception, which is something I didn't know about before and could help get a deal done if we wanted.
A scenario of Bibby for Damon Jones (2 yrs, $8.5 mil left), Scot Pollard (expiring), Alexander Pavlovic (expiring), Anderson Varejao (expiring), the trade exception and a pick works under cap rules. The only problems are that the Kings would have to waive a player or two, and that the Cavs already traded away their 07 first rounder, so it would have to be an 08 pick--when the draft is worse and the Cavs will be better (ie the pick is worse too).
That said, while we'd be stuck with Damon Jones as a $4million/year backup point guard for a couple years, we'd get a significant amount of cap space. We'd have the Bird rights to resign Varejao, and if we got rid of SAR and/or Miller's contracts as well, we could make a move for Mo Williams to fill in the starting PG role. We'd likely have at least a top 5 draft pick, leaving a young core lineup of Mo Williams, Martin, Artest, Varejao and our top 5 big man stud.
Scenario 2: Boston
This has been discussed before as a destination for Bibby. Delonte West has been playing great lately, but I think the Celts would pull the trigger if they felt that a Bibby/Pierce/Wally backcourt could win the Atlantic now. They've been rumored to offer Al Jefferson and their pick for Gasol, so perhaps their pick wouldn't be off limits in a Bibby deal after all. The deal would likely revolve around Bibby for West/Theo Ratliff, so the question is how we could sweeten it to get their pick as well. Of course, while it is a top 2 pick in their current state, you'd have to think that adding Bibby would push it into the mid/late teens.
