Bayless traded

Chris Paul gets help and the Blazers get another 1st round pick. This also opens up minutes for the other Blazers. Wes Matthews can earn his millions:)

It's too bad the Kings couldn't make a run at Bayless. I've had my eye on him for a while, and he could be a dynamic third guard to throw out with Tyreke and either Beno or Cisco.

I agree that a lottery pick may be too rich for him though...A fair trade for both sides.

Seems like a good trade for both teams. Portland gets a lottery pick while the hornets get a dynamic scorer to replace Collison.

Well, they only get a lottery pick if New Orleans misses the playoffs this year. With a presumably healthy Chris Paul, and the addition of Ariza, the Hornets ought to be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Funny how a lot of Kings fans (myself included) wanted Bayless in the draft a couple of years ago and now he's being shipped off for a conditional pick. I'm not sure if that's because of the crunch in Portland or because Bayless just isn't that great. I'm not really sure what the Blazers are going to do to back up Miller now. Maybe some Roy, maybe some Elliot Williams, maybe some Armon Johnson or Patty Mills, whichever survives the next cut (because they still appear to have 17 on their roster). But I'd say their backup point is thin now.

I see New Orleans is trying to just stockpile players that aren't all that good to keep CP3 "happy". I guess it's better than sitting on your hands, overall not a bad trade. Better for Portland I think but we will see how Bayless plays with Paul or just being his backup.

Bayless only does one real NBA viable thing--getting to the line extremely well. Secondary things that are more replaceable are the fact that he can create shots at will for himself and can defend both guard positions decently at man-to-man situations, and that sort of makes him a decent backup player. But for a team that sorely needs a shot creator and a guy who can get to the line, Bayless might actually maximize his potential here. There will be a numbers crunch--Marcus Thornton, CJ Jerrells, Willie Green, and Belinelli will all split, and there will be some trouble as all of those guys sans Jerrells have gotten 15+ minutes in recent seasons, so that might be problematic.

But for those who really wanted Bayless in the past, he's just a replacement level player. Poor overall defender, combo-guard level passing, can be a out of control on drives, pretty poor long-range shooter. Just the driving game is really intriguing.

The Kings must have had the offer. If Portland made it to NO, then why shouldn't they make it to the Kings, with the potential of a higher pick? Yes, I'm making an assumption: the Kings turned down the deal.

This is the same kind of deal I thought we could have pulled off for him. He’s an energy guy and would have been great over here. So I’m really disappointed that we didn't get him…But good luck to him with the Hornets. Hopefully something compels them to trade him to us, lol.
