I have a theory it's egomania. There are fringe guys like Metu and the like who would be chomping at the bit to get time after being out of an NBA rotation. There are guys who will work hard after hearing doubters and try to stick it to them by their in-game play.

Then there's egomaniacs like Marvin, who already consider themselves flawless, therefore stick it to the doubters (in this case, the Kings organization) by depriving them of their god-given presence.
 
If someone reported that the Kings FO told someone like Metu or King or Ramsay that they were on the trading block before the season, which didn't materialize and then were out of the rotation, nobody would bat an eye. This kind of stuff happens all the time to fringe guys, along with constant shifting between G-league and big league, unguaranteed contracts, constant activation and deactivation, etc.

But I guess some people including a lot of Kings twitter for some reason are still determined to treat him like he's still in the AAU circuit.

Yeah, no one wants to see your face either, but I think everyone expects fringe players to play when called. So get your fringy self in there and try not to burn the place down, you punk diva fringe bust.

No. I think it's clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that Walton, for as good as he might be at drawing up plays out of timeouts, is way over his head in being a head coach in the NBA, and that's not going to change. Bagley is athletic, talented, young, and has the ability to improve. If the biggest of Bagley's problems is indeed a clash with Walton - and at this point I think we might need to suppose that that's the major issue here - then his issues might be fixed with a new coach. No new roster short of the 2015-2016 Warriors will fix Luke Walton.

Walton should go, Bagley should play.
 
Bagley is the worst personel decision this franchise has made in probably 15 years. But I don't have an issue withe team not playing him. He deserves all of that. But the team now looks incompetent asking him to come in the game and he refused. They should have known Bagley would do something like this. What else could have happened? Bagley got rich. The Kings got nothing.

Getting rid of Bagley doesnt do us any good while getting rid of Walton will

Lol what? Marvin has had more than his earned opportunities to play. He buried his own ass. Even when we tried to play him more he just gets injured. There's years of evidence that if he decided his own minutes he couldn't even get the higher QO

If we're talking about an opportunity to get the higher QO, then this is the only year that really matters. Being buried on the bench, whether his fault or not, doesn't change the fact that there is no more damage that can be done to "punish" him. He's already lost $7mil, his playing time and a solid portion of the fan base hates everything he stands for. He has nothing to lose. It's really hard to coach a guy who has no incentive to buy into anything you're saying.

This is a lose lose situation for all.
 
The smartest thing this organization has done in the past 15 years is trade Thomas Robinson the minute they decided he wasn't going to work. If the guy is a top 5 pick, you have to play him or move him.
 
Bagley was a big deal in college. He played well and competed for a championship.

His view of himself is 4 years out of date. He has a bad attitude, and has barely progressed at all. Where is the right hand? Where is the new footwork? Where is the defense? When will he serious about the weight room? He is a loser and will be selling cars in a few years if he does not wake up.
 
Not sure why folks are so bent out of shape about a guy who has only played 10 minutes this season and declined to play an extra 2 minutes in a blowout.

Isn't Bagley waiving towels and high fiving teammates on the bench, but also never stepping foot on the court again what everyone wanted?

Not stepping foot on the court = traded to another team for something of value. Not refusing to step on the court when finally getting your chance to prove everyone wrong.
 
Massive ego + immaturity = decisions like the one Bagley just made.

In his own mind, he probably thinks he made a righteous stand. His teammates pretending like they support him only further justifies his poor decision making. Hopefully it was just the team not airing their dirty laundry on the bench in front of the cameras because he really needs a strong personality to put him in his place behind the scenes.

Bagley should play IF he gives the team a better chance to win. At this point, that's the only justification. The concept of developing Bagley has likely sailed at this point since he clearly doesn't want to remain with the team.

Harkless adds defense and has had some success shooting from outside in certain games but overall he's shooting under 27% from three on the season on 2.7 3PA per game. Marvin shot 34% from outside last season on similar volume.

So yeah, with the Kings struggling a bit right now, why not give him a shot with the starters? The defense would get worse but he'd improve the rebounding (which has been a weak point) and could potentially space the floor as well as Harkless currently does while adding a go to scorer in the low post.

As much of a black hole as Bagley has been on offense, Mo isn't moving the ball consistently right now anyway. And moving Harkless out of the starting lineup gives the Kings the 3/4 wing off the bench that they currently lack.

Again, at this point it should only be about whether or not Marvin contributes to winning. If he's mad and thinks he deserves more minutes, a bigger role on a different team etc then he should be ready to go out and play the best basketball of his career to prove it. If McNair isn't going to trade him then play him and see if he adds a spark. You can always bench him again if it doesn't work. What does the team have to lose at this point?

I really wish I knew what McNair thought of Bagley. In the recent Athletic article, McNair said who plays and doesn't is all on Walton. Also said that he gave Walton a guard heavy team, so that would have an impact on how the lineups go. It appears McNair wants no part of what's going on with Bagley's playing time and is leaving that up to Luke. Or so he'd have us believe.

Hard to say. But McNair's role is asset management so the only thing we can really deduce is that whatever his valuation of Bagley, he hasn't been presented with an offer for him that he thinks would improve the team. That's either because he has a higher opinion of Bagley than what's been offered or (and I think this is more likely) there just hasn't been anything of value offered for him.

There was talk that he offered Bagley for Saddiq Bey (which I would very much be down for) and got rejected by the Pistons so it's not like Monte is out there trying to get number 2 overall pick valuation on the guy either.

His value is a contract filler in a bigger trade at this point.

Right. Assuming that rumor was legit (and I'd guess it was) it gives one data point on Bagley's value, at least last year before he was an ending contract and potentially a free agent (which could lower or raise his value in other team's eyes depending on what they're trying to do). As of last season, he had less value than Bey.

Bey isn't shooting as well so far this season but his rebounding has improved. He's also a better fit as a big wing in today's NBA IMO. So I can see why McNair would make that offer and I see why the Pistons would reject it.

If the Kings are considering dealing Fox for Simmons I suggested sending out Bagley and asking for Thybulle.

Trade proposals happen all the time. It's curious that this was leaked and what the reason would be.

It's very clear McNair favors players 6'8 and under, so it's no surprise he would pursue Bey. I don't know if that means he thinks Bagley is worth a late 1st rounder or if he thinks Bey should have been drafted higher.

a defensive lineup consisting of Simmons, Mitchell, Thybulle, Hali and Harkless would be insane. Would give them 3 legit lockdown defenders …2 of which can also facilitate the offense at a high level
