Artest for Nene??

As an aside, while you are busy thanking god that Petrie is running the show, you might want to consider that Petrie has been after Nene for years -- first tried to get him with Mobley as I recall -- and apparently still is.

I want Nene and the first note I posted about this was very enthusiastic. The cancer gave me pause as it involves a course of medications and then re-evaluation. I doubt that the course of medications is complete nor will it be complete by February 21. Now, if they extend Artest's contract to give the Nuggets some security and give Artest his Bird rights and pull this off at the end of the season, I will be thrilled. So should anyone. This extension will not hurt us and it will help the Nuggets and Artest.

I can live with the type of injuries he has. We will have very few deals like this come our way now that Gasol is gone.

As much as I bickered about your use of stats, I'll take your word about his usefulness as a starter. He solves two major problems. He gives a position player we most desperately need and removes a position player where we are over loaded. As a person, I am far less concerned about Ron and his possible negative influence on this team than most people but it gives us Salmons who fairly obviously is poor off the bench and great as a starter.

The sum of the trade is positive.

Whether the cancer is a real long term risk depends on information that none of us has. If it had not moved to the lymph nodes or beyond, the cure rate probably approaches 100%. Otherwise we are in more dangerous land but, as someone pointed out, if he must retire due to physical problems, we will get a break from the NBA.

NeNe isn't Chris Webber but he is also not Kenny Thoms in fact he may be more the top side. before his injury were he sat out the entire year he was getting 20 and 10's. As a starter he could easily get 16 and 10 here and be more a force on defense than we have now. Then Mikki becomes more valuable to us as a bench player bringing that enthusiasm and excitment he brings. With and Mikki and Garcia coming off the bench you can't ask for any more energy than that.

The #1 reason for Denver to do this trade is the luxury tax. From a basketball standpoint it's a stretch, but they'd essentially be clearing Nene's contract for an expiring and get Ron in the meantime. And Ron's by far the best expiring out there.

This is why I gotta think the Kings include KT for Najera...it's JUST WAYYYYYYY too good for Denver straight up.

Friggin agree 100000% with that last statement. I actually took my (Mikki was a horrible Signing) off my signature, because I believe that off the bench Mikki can be VERY useful, and his deal isn't that bad if he gives us that energetic bench play w/ Garcia.

I don't understand how people can be so scared to get Nene when he is exactly the PF we need since we lost Webber and our dreams when he blew his knee out. We have a crappy group of "PF" if you can even call them that. Justin has potential, but with him being so skinny he is never going to be able to bang with guys like Nene and Curry.

With Artest looking to blow up again, I would love this trade. Also as people have said, Nene does scare them with his injuries and now the cancer, but hopefully a change in scenery will do him much good and God know we need a real PF presence on the team. Also Salmons has been very patient, but I don't know how much longer he can wait and not start. Of course GP signed him to backup 3 positions, but he has shown he can put up big #s starting.

With Miller being as soft as he is as a Center, I know he has played better this year, but we need a big and dominant front court presence and the young/big/athletic Nene would/should do that for us.

I feel that trades don't happen because GP demands that K9 is attached to all deals. While I would love that we trade away K9, it would be nice to actually make a trade to help the team or at least take a gamble on a young star in the making (especially at the PF/C position).

First, what you didn't mention or didn't know is that GP went after Nene BEFORE he signed that huge contract and BEFORE all this injuries became a regular occurance.

Second, Brick, you are one of the fellas who criticized GP for giving big money to unhealthy guys and not trading for young prospects. Now, here is a good young player and you're opting for the injury-prone, cap-eater.

And while you're happily reading Petrie's mind, note this about Geoff: he doesn't like injury-prone players. He exposed the (then) injury-prone Wallace. Traded the injury-prone Webber. Traded the slowed-down-by-injury Christie. I won't say he'll never trade for Nene, but for that to happen now, it'll take a very sweet deal for us to make that happen.

I have a question. If we trade Artest who will start? Garcia, or Salmons? I am a bit worried about Salmons because of his turnovers. Not that Artest is much better, but I am thinking I would rather go with Garcia.

Don't think that would make much of a difference. Reason I say that is because even if Artest opted out after this year we would have the same thing to offer Beno which is the exception. it can grow from there though if I am not mistaken. We could offer something like a 5 year 35mil deal which starts at 5mil a year and grows into 8 or so on his last year.

If I am not mistaken it works something like that.. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I think it would work out like the Bonzi thing did a few years back in the amount we could offer.
