Arena Issues

KCRA just announced the talks are off (on hold) for the Natomas plan. The Maloofs didn't answer questions and it appears to be a 100m dollar difference in what the Malloofs want the land owners to pay and what they want to pay... 300 vs 400mill

The crappy week for the Kings continue.

In a way it almost seems like they don't want a deal to be made. Just IMO and an impression I get. Of course my only source for news is our media.

I think KCRA should be ashamed for trying to make something out of absolutely nothing. The report said talks had been stopped temporarily and that parties close to both sides said it was pretty much just a chance to regroup. Mike TeSelle acted like he had breaking news of vast importance and then had to conclude his story with the comment that indications were still good that both sides would continue to negotiate after a break.

I'm proud of the Maloofs for not answering questinos. Just because some bozo sticks a microphone in front of them doesn't mean they have to say anything ESCPECIALLY when it was at a press conference called to announce Petrie's contract extension.

I am sick to death of the Sacramento media trying to create controversy out of this kind of stuff. When two sides are trying to negotiate contracts at this level, there are OFTEN lots of impasses, temporary suspensions of discussions, etc.

Both the Bee and KCRA seem to be hell-bent on showing the Maloofs are anxious to leave, but they never seem to come up with anything concrete. I have to wonder if KCRA is just jealous because of the deal News10 has.

This is a NON-story IMHO.

I hope so. I am sure we will see the BEE masterminds stir up some crap tomorrow.

In big biz it is common for negotiations to reach stalls, and all that stuff so I am not that worried. As far as them not answering questions. I think in a way that hurts them, if they would just answer and say "we are talking, its in a stall but this is normal we are doing everything we can to get this arena deal done". That would be a lot better then silence and help to put out the flames some of our media wants to play on.

Just thought it was worth posting here since it hit the news tonight.

I am more concerned about a future arena than almost anything else related to the Kings. Regardless of my concern, I would agree that this incident appears to be a "non-story". I feel that the local media twits are really looking for an emotional disaster to befall Kings fans. They are desperately seeking something to report. The Maloofs will eventually do what they have to do, but I still have far more confidence in the Maloofs than the media or random bozos who postulate dire scenarios on this issue.

Them not answering questions during pending negotations is EXACTLY what they should do. They don't have to say anything else and if they did, you and I both know someone in the media would find some way to twist it to suit themselves. The Maloofs aren't dummies. They've seen how the local media can make something huge out of nothing. They're not professional athletes who speak before thinking. They are multi-millionaire businessmen. They are under NO OBLIGATION to discuss their business dealings with the media and I would have been frankly pretty shocked if they'd succumbed to the ambush tactics used by KCRA.

The Maloofs aren't afraid of the Sacramento media and they don't answer to them. The deal will not succeed or fail because of KCRA.

I applaud them for treating Mike TeSelle with all the respect he deserved for trying to get them to give him a "breaking news" sound bite.

;)

i really don't think they should make a story of it until any negotiations are final...i personally feel like its not really news otherwise....::wuah wuah wuah::

I can agree with that. I mean our media makes anything out of everything cwebb says or doesn't say. Hell they tried to make the story tonight based on what the Maloofs didn't say

... sigh.... I would love this whole arena issue to be settled. I have faith they will work something out, but I would love to completely erase from my mind the lingering fear that they might move the Kings. What happened to good old fashioned compromise?? They say 300 mil, we say 400 mil, can't we just settle at 350 mil and call it a day?? If only it were that easy.
