Another Triple Double by Webber!!

#39
Big ups to Webber, who despite his abysmal early shooting was doing everything he could to help the team. It is kind of a testament to how good he actually IS that people shrug off 3 triple doubles in 5 games as if any player could do it, or like they expect it of him.
Tough, tough shooting night, but the shots looked good, just didn't go down. Thank goodness he stuck it out and didn't let it get to him. He was not forcing things, which he has a tendency to do when he thinks he is on the verge of breaking through. Thought he tried a little TOO hard in the early going to get Peja off, but I can't fault him for that, as he appears to be the only King who is CONSCIOUSLY thinking of Peja. The rest are doing as they should and playing their game.

Hmm, tied for the league lead in triple doubles this season.
Notable players who have not had a SINGLE triple double thus far this season......Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan. Duncan doesn't surprise me, because he really isn't a passer like Chris or Garnett, but KG does.

In addition, be sure and check the positions of every other player to have a TD this year. NONE of them are big men. Not a one.

The last that I recall ... Webber is not even an all-star player and the team with him in the lineup is doing a lot worse than what they were doing at this time last season without him. How can he be MVP candidate ?

Oh for Pete's sake. The team with him in the lineup is doing a lot worse? You cannot be serious. Or can you? Is your hatred of him THAT blind?

How can you compare last year's team and record against last year's opponents to this year's team and record against this year's opponents? And even if you do, what possible relevance does it have?

You know what. Never mind. I don't care.

Just for the record? We're talking about a pretty good accomplishment. It's a shame you can't recognize it. It doesn't happen very often, all-star player or not.

To be perfectly fair, up until the 4 game losing streak, our record was nearly identical to that vaunted record of last year at this time that you keep referring to. A one game difference, despite losing Bobby so early in the season this year as we did. Despite the loss of Vlade, the trade in mid season etc. That record was enough last year to be leading the league. It wouldn't have been this year. Which means, that the competition this year is tougher than ever.

Sloter, I agree with you that we need more wins for Webber to be considered for MVP status, but him not being an all star is a joke, even you have to admit that. Whether we are a better team with or without Webber is purely subjective and you are entitled to your opinion. I will say that we had a relatively easy schedule for the first half of last season and let's not forget that Webber has had a possible major career ending surgery that he has fought back from.

three triples in last 5 games, Kings went 1-4. Not saying those two events are connected, just pointing them out! Webb/MVP???? He would have a hard time getting the engraver to take Nash's name off of the trophy!!! 15 triples for the season???? 11 more in the next 28 games???? Not too likely! FAN-tastic isn't where exuberence overcomes reality

Ok but 2 of the 4 TD's DID result in victories for the Kings, and it's hard balme Webb for the losses. He is NOT ball hogging or failing to take the big shot, nor is he disapearing in the 4th. His defensive assingment, has not been burning him.

Getting the shooting improved would make Chris an MVP candidate!
One interesting fact: Chris does not go to the line often, since he seldomly drives to the basket? Dirk makes his oppenent foul him when his shooting is off, which is smart.

I can't imagine him actually winning an MVP trophy when he coudnt even become an all star BUT Webb is playing incredibly and cannot really be put at fault for the Kings losses (missed free throws dont work cuz other kings missed them in the mavs game as well) no matter how hard anyone tries. If Webb had scored over 40 points in all those games and the Kings lost then someone could say that his play was potentially detrimental - however triple doubles are earned through passing and rebounds which ae clear signs of unselfishness and effort.

By saying that missing Bobby is the same as missing Webber is kind of proving my point? Bobby was never an MVP candidate, or an all star... I don't know if it is the coincidence that during the time that Webber played so well, the Kings had one of the toughest series of games (in terms of W/L) in the last few years. In all honesty, Webber's individual performance should probably earn him an all-star spot, but to have someone be MVP candidate he actually has to raise his team's game, not just his own. Not sure if that can be said about Webber...

P.S. Kingsgurl, the trade is actually an upgrade.

Webber is not an MVP candidate IMO.

However, when was the last time the league leader in Triple Doubles did *not* make the All-Star team? (Legit question, I'm really wondering this).

I note that the top five guys or so in the triple double list are all on the squad.

It's just absurd. Fortunately it goes to show how absolutely meaningless the All-Star game is. I won't be watching it.

Heh,talkin about his triple double? and shooting 7 - 23 from the field almost every night, talking about his dribling? Traylor,Divac,Fortson are movin faster then Webber.

You know if you want to criticize Webb it's not so hard to do that you need to make up numbers to do so.

People tend to forget how good Chris was before the injury... including myself.
Is it me but it seems like Chris still hasn't recover fully because he doesn't play inside as much as before. He seems to settle for too many jumpshots. He used to play above the rim but.. I don't know. It still is nice to see him playing much better.
For some strange reasons, Peja seems to play when Chris is not around.. Hmm
