Based on what Bridges makes, Monk + Carter + how many picks gets that done? Knicks save some money + get locked in contracts where they clearly cant afford to keep this whole team together beyond next year.

I thought you meant trading all for Mikal I like Mikal if it’s just Keon, Derozan, and picks for him

If Schroeder is starting then there’s no hope for this front office why should Schroeder or Jones start over Carter. Carter was a lottery pick is he not projected to be a starting guard we’re not OKC or houston start your lottery pick picks

Well in that hypothetical I posted, we trade Carter.
TBH what I saw in Carter is he isn't a point guard at all. He is more of a guy you hope can be smaller Caruso. Keon/Monk are both better handling the ball. I'm investing into Keon over Carter all day every day.

Too soon to make any sort of call on Carter. Which is why we should give it another season, at least, to see what he can develop into.

The defensive flashes were already there. Team was just better when he was on the floor. All depends on what he can become offensively

He has way more ball skills than Caruso he’s more of a Nembhard with better athleticism you don’t trade him for gutter trash that’s rumored. Just kings being kings

If the Kings run back DeMar, Domas, and Lavine after trading their only player under 24 who provides all of the things they said they needed to get, then at least we know what the next few seasons of ball will look like. 2-3 drafts in the 13 range again, maybe middle of the first round, then the real pain begins haha. It's going to be like 2008-2017 all over again. Probably without a Cuz level talent unfortunately.

Thinking he's guaranteed to be Nembhard is extremely generous. Nembhard is arguably a top 3 guard/wing defender.
I try not to judge him because he was hurt, but what I saw last year was a really bad player.
Not a ball handler, bad passer, broken shot, didn't beat guys off the dribble, not a great finisher, not exactly the hyper athleticism we were promised. He is also 23 already.
Last year was an F season for him. Does he still have potential? Yes. But it's pretty clear to me that he and Keon are destined for the same role, and Keon is just better in every aspect.

Carter projects to be in the vein of all those guards you saw in the finals. That's the cheat code right now. Both teams in the finals ran a ton of guard lineups. Him not being a ball handler just isn't true either. He was rated one of the better pick and roll players in college. Keon is a 3 and D SG through and through and almost 90 percent of his offense is assisted while his assist percentage is sub 10. I brought it up at the time before Carter (and everyone else) were placed off ball in favor for DeMar and LaVine chomping the offense but Carter had like the 3rd or 4th highest assist percentage per 36 at one point. He's also more versatile on defense. In the play in it was clear. PJ got switched onto Keon and feasted. Carter was able to hang. Carter has long arms, elite mobility, and strength. If you are looking for defenders, that's the it factor. And the finals just proved it.

In my ideal world I keep both.
Get rid of LaVine and Demar, add a bigger starting point guard.

I'm not advocating to give him away. I'm simply saying he wouldn't be off-limits for me if the right trade came along, and nothing I saw last year said his floor is Andrew Nembhard, if anything that may be his ceiling.

I understand and my take is if the Kings are selling off young talent, package it together and sell it all for a needle mover. Not lateral steps yet again. Don't part out your assets, maximize them.

Carter also had decent catch and shoot numbers in college. Will in translate? Time will tell. The Kings better take that time before bailing yet again on another young lottery pick. They need to be adding young talent to the little they have not this two steps forward how many back BS. They always do that and then wonder why they're perpetually stuck. Definition of insanity. Carter shot 38% from 3 in the G league and in April in limited attempts he shot 36% so it was climbing. Just because a shot looks funky doesn't mean it's not effective. Kevin Martin by pure mechanics had a way wonkier shot. If Carter busts he busts. The defense and rebounding are there though. The issue is Carters upside is >>> than almost all the players in the first round of this draft if going back total package and potential athletically.

I didn't see the offense rolling much at all with Carter playing PG but he wasn't so horrific at it (IE: McLemore) that I'd rule out his ability to do it in the future. I don't really see him ever being a traditional PG but the Nembhard comp would be good enough if he can get there. I don't see Nembhard as his floor or ceiling. His floor is definitely that of a G League player. There's plenty of all defense, no offense guys in the G League. We just need to see if he can develop his offensive game. He needs to develop more tools to even become an average player on that end of the court.

Hopefully that report of him not putting in the work on his diet and game was bogus.

That was the frustration with Monte and really anyone outside of that year Perry did the 10 for 15/20 and both us and the Blazers whiffed on all 3 picks.

Picks even outside the top N+2 in an N player draft generally are easy to acquire once things fall into place. In this draft I think anything outside a top 5 pick will be acquirable if we actually wait until its up, which is also nice because it insures we get the player we wanted.

The question as always is will we commit to playing young talent if we get it.
