[Rumor] Amick: Scott Perry is “Thinking big”

You may be overestimating how useful RJ Barrett is. He's the anchor we'd be taking on to GET the #9 pick. DDR for Barrett straight up is like stabbing yourself in the face for no reason.

Yeah, how you evaluate RJ is a pretty big indicator on how you understand basketball, frankly. He's still just 25, so there's certainly time/room for him to turn it around ala Andrew Wiggins, but he's got A LONG way to go before he's an impact winning player.

They’re both just scorers yea DDR might be the better scorer but he barley provides anything else at 36 you can’t justify trading a lottery pick for him

No, no, RJ's deal is being reported as the two-year value. For the upcoming season it's $27.7M, so it's like DDR alone would do it. NOT a Domas package, which would be DUMBDUMBDUMB anyway.

Trading out DDR to get RJ and the #9 seems fair. I don't like RJ a whole lot, so I'd rather get a package of defense and salary than this, but #9 is a draw. Wouldn't really like to have to include Carter in this though.

No way we get the #9 and RJ for DDR. Maybe if we add in Carter and a second

Who would we even take at 9? Kasparas Jakucionis?
#9 is kind of a tricky spot because Bailey is super unlikely to fall that far no matter how many feet he shoots himself in, and there's a good chance that Jakucionis is snapped up off the board right in front of us.

At that point, if it's Maluach that falls you probably have to take him and see if you can't use him as a defensive C with Sabonis getting more of a PF assignment. That might be tricky, especially if Sabonis has to extend out to the perimeter on D, and it's not clear that it worked well in the past with Turner.

The other possible fallers there are Fears, Johnson, Knueppel. We probably just take any of those, but I will admit to not being very high on Fears and seeing Knueppel as more of a can't-miss role player. Johnson is interesting, but I have questions about his attitude and he's pretty clearly a SG which just adds to the logjam.

If you look at the guys on the board immediately after #9, it's a bunch of PFs that don't thrill me, and Carter Bryant who doesn't thrill me, and maybe Coward, who is a lot of a black box (and also a SG).

So, if it's not Jakucionis, at that point I'm probably leaning towards trading down a bit and then rolling the dice on Egor Demin - with the caveat that a squad with Demin probably looks a lot better with Demin running the show from the 3 and Devin Carter taking on the defensive blunt guard role at the 1. So if we trade Devin Carter to get there, Demin starts to look a bit less like a good bet to me.

Yeah, #9 is tricky. It's a pick that you can't afford to mess up, but it's a pick that's easy to mess up.

One strategy would be to line up two DDR trades - one with Toronto for the #9 + salary, and the other potentially with Miami for the #20 and Jaquez + salary. If Jakucionis is there at #9, pull the trigger with Toronto. If not, pull the trigger with Miami and take your best shot a bit lower down in a lower-pressure slot, with Jaquez as the defensive consolation prize for "moving down" 11 slots.

I like the way you think...

Pretty clear about half this board views RJ as a negative asset and half the board views him as a plus. I'm in the former camp when it comes to this team/our roster. We'd be taking him on for the 9th pick. If we did a similar deal with DDR to Miami for 20, we would be placing all our eggs in what I think is sort of a weak draft basket with mid-tier picks, but we could be a lot worse. It also puts us in a good situation as far as see what we have and then build on it or move on in my estimation.

However as much as I am loath to deal with a team that is sort of in our way and a conference rival, I think PJ Washington and Dallas and a future first might be more enticing for Monk.

I am also on board with waiting until draft day and making sure the player we want is actually there before consummating any deal. Of course that leaves the possibility a team falls in love with their very own Devin Carter and nixes the deal.

I’m ready for a Domas deal to reset but this is NOT what I had in mind. Poelt and more picks involved.

If Perry is looking to get Keegan back to SF, this is not the deal

Has to be something else……Lavine?
No, guys, he's reporting the salary wrong. RJ Barrett is at $27.7M, he's a salary match for DDR, not Domas or Zach (by himself).

What would the Raps want for that package from the Kings or Nets? If it’s Lavine, they would need to include IQ to get to the salary.

Yeah, looking at the Raptors salary cap it's going to be hard for them to make a big deal without including IQ. Then for a team like Sacramento it's another why bother move? Moving out someone like Monk who is almost identical to him as a volume no defense guard is just moving deck chairs and taking in a worse contract to boot. Common sense says and has always said, either run it back and assess at the deadline or rebuild.

I don't actually see Jason Anderson saying this anywhere on twitter or bluesky, but I approve of this message. It also means he must be shopping at least two of the players that have created our logjam.
Now THIS instantly makes us soooo much better. Keegan was expected to do way too much playing out of position, but I do think that will help him in his development going forward. I'm excited for him
