American Idol

OK. i am going to start the thread. For those that live in Sacramento like me, there are two local interest on the female side:

Stevie Scott - Who lives in Fair Oaks and is a Sacramento State student
http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/stevie_scott/

Mandisa Hundley - Who was raised in Citrus Heights, is an El Camino High School graduate and church home is Genesis Baptist Church in South Sacramento.
http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/mandisa/

My odds on favorite right now is 17 year old Paris Bennett. http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/paris_bennett/

The minute she finished her audition song, I picked her as the next American Idol. This girl is on point and can sing anything.

Yes, I was really cheering for Stevie Scott since she is also from Fair Oaks and went to my church, but I don't think she's in her element on AI, as talented as she is. She should just concentrate on opera. And Paris Bennett-wow! Excellent singer and performer, she's got the whole package. Same with Mandisa.

Yeah. I thought Paris is going to win or the blonde girl, Kellie Pickler. They IMO, will be in the ladt round facing each other. I think the bouys are very bad this year. I dont think any of them are good, except maybe the white haired guy........;) . Paris and Kellie in the finals is my Prediction!

I really like Lisa Tucker! She's got an amazing voice.

Paris is good... but I would like to see her sing more songs before she can get my vote. ;)

I love Taylor Hicks. I know he won't win it, but the guy is just meant to be doing what he is doing.

On the girls side, I liked Pickler but she was very average last night.

Anybody see Maxim pictures of Becky O'Donohue (the twin). Wow. I'd post a link, but as this is family frienly site, it might not be appropriate.

I'm very disappointed in both Randy and Paula. The kid Kevin Covais, the one who looks about 12 and has his parents in the audience, was bad tonight. Just bad. Part nerves, but part poor song selection IMHO. He was off-key (I guess they call it "pitchy" now) and the song was almost unrecognizable.

My beef with Randy and Paula is they made way too much of a fuss over him, Randy told him his performance was "The bomb" as though that was good, and Paula was just cloying. Simon was the only one who was honest - he said the performance bordered on "excruciating."

Just watch. America will feel sorry for Kevin and vote him on, just to spite Simon.

I like the variety of styles we're seeing this year. I think there are several people who will undoubtedly end up with successful recording contracts regardless of what happens here...

Simon comes off as jerk, but he is the only one that lays it out there as it is. I don't know if Paula has ever said anything useful on that show (or anything that made any sense). Randy has his ups and downs and biases.

What about the Pinoy - Sway .....

I like the final 24 .... some very talented singers ... IMO, the girls really OUTSHINE the boyz .... couple of the guys I'm rootin' for are: Taylor, Chris and Ace.

The girls are definitely stronger this season .... all the different styles are going to make it interesting to see how VERSATILE they are when they start selectiong their songs from VENUE/CATEGORY type list.

The girls are really strong this season, but I like Sway. I use to listen to him back in the DnH days. But I still don't get why he's still in the competition. Thought that people who already have contracts can't be in it. He's in the group 6th day with other members from other Filipino groups. Unless he dropped outta that group. But I dunno. So until then, he'll probably be the only guy that I vote for. But I do love the girls this season.

In addition to Stevie Scott, the three others who got voted off were:

(1.) Becky O'Donohue, a former collegiate basketball player (Niagara University). She and her twin sister Jessie also appeared on a special "twins" episode of Fear Factor a few years ago, and more recently appeared on MAXIM magazine. Jessie also played college hoops with Becky and sings, but since she recently had throat surgery, she didn't participate in American Idol, though she did show up with Becky during the audition phase.

(2.) The big guy who sang Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" song.

(3.) The thin guy who sang Melissa Etheridge's "Come To My Window" song (he was the first one of the guys to sing last Wednesday).

I'm sorry, but ... after watching this show for however long it's been on .... also being a musician (knowing how to get a crowd involved)

Why ... tell me why - do people that make it this far continue to pick just TERRIBLE songs ... what I mean is, yeah, it's a great song - but, if you've followed this show, it's the UPBEAT & RHYTHMIC songs that KEEP OR GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO MOVE ON !!!!

Now Bobby, the big guy .... actually had a good song. but he sucked at it.

Okay, I'm done .... I just don't get it .... they work so hard to make it this far - ONLY TO BLOW by their song selection. If not them, then who is advising these people ....

I missed the girls night, so I have only seen the little snippets they show as recaps. From those I say....Katherine and Paris. I will have to wait to really hear them to give my opionion.

I did however see the guys and on a whole, I was unimpressed. There are a few shining stars-Ace, Taylor, Elliot, and Gideon, but the others are not up to par. I know, you're saying Gideon????? Mark my words, Gideon will come out and show everyone he has a good voice. But, like Simon, I to find his smile creepy. It's like Sardonicus. But the other guys are just completely out of their element.

I agree with VF21 about Randy & Paula. This is about finding the best of the best. Kevin is not. And it was not just Kevin. Sway was also quite awful and was told he was "hot" Chris was praised and to me he sounds like every 80's rocker there ever was. There is nothing special to him. Fred Savage, I mean Matt is cute sure but he is weak. David is soooooo nichey he will won't make it. Jazz lounge singer all the way. And Bucky, well, he just isn't good.

FolsomAl-Song selection is probably the most important choice you make throughout the whole competition. You want to show your range both vocally and emotionally, so they are not always going to pick the up-tempo fun stuff. The other thing the contestants have to remember is it's not about power and volume. It is about control, showmanship and good pipes.

My vote so far is Ace and Taylor. I know I will throw a girl in there once I hear them.

I agree with most of the choices of who had to go with the exception of that one girl with the crazy hair who sang Stevie Wonder. How in the world is she not gone, she was horrible! Bad performance and even worse attitude. And even though I adore Stevie Scott, I think leaving the show was the best thing to happen to her career-wise. She is simply more of an opera singer and that is where her concentration should be now. 'AI' would of molded her into something that she isn't if she had remained. As for the guys, I really didn't watch much of that show because I was watching the Olympics. I agree that David, like Stevie, just doesn't fit in. However, he is such a cutie-pie and also charming that it would be nice to see him stick around for just a little bit more.

I don't disagree with you Daniela, however - at this point of the competition EACH INDIVIDUAL picks their own music ... and with the history of AI - especially comments by the judges on TERRIBLE MUSIC SELECTION ... one would give this SERIOUS CONSIDERATION ... and while her song was very nice, it's just not one I would've selected had I been in her shoes and with her style.

But, like Royal D said .... her style was good for getting her into the top 24, just not good enough to get beyond that.

I too, agree that the girl that sang the Steve Wonder song was terrible. IMO - I would rank her BELOW Stevie.

Top Three

GUYS
1. Elliott - I am a big Stevie Wonder fan, and he represented in a big way. Right now the favorite amongst the guys.
2. Sway - Tough EWF song to sing, but you can tell the guy can sing.
3. Chris - Has chops. Probably the richest voice amongst the guys.

GALS
1. Lisa - By a hair. So young, so talented.
2. Paris - See Lisa. I think she can sing the heck out of the phone book. Has huge stage presence.
3. Kathrine - I did not think she could sing that well in the audition. But to my surprise she can blow. Very good charisma.

NEXT TO LEAVE PREDICTIONS
Guys - David and Bucky
Gals - Brenna and Heather

"Pick" Pickler is Way Too Nervous

You missed Kellie Pickler for the Girls. She has an amazing voice. And Taylor will be a fan favorite for American Idol.

I think at some point in the compition Kellie Pickler's nerves are going to do her in. She can sing, but these other three are very comfortable up front. It is one point to be nervous, it is another to admit and show that you are. She may make the final 12 but once she gets on the big stage....

Taylor is very different. I just can't get past him always acting like Ray Charles. If he could tone that down, and if I could get past him looking like he is 49 instead of 29, he would have a shot.

He does have a passion and deep love for music that just exudes out of him. His enthusiasm is off the chart. I like him.

Well, I think Kellie will get out of her nerves soon, plus many people like her background story and all of that for American Idol. Thats why I think she will be in top 3 and in top 2, I think it will be Paris and Kellie.

Overall my top 3 would be, Paris, Kellie, and Taylor. I am going for Paris to win it all though.....

I'm one who really didn't think Kellie was that great. She just gave an average performance IMHO. As for her background story, yes, that's nice, but should that really be judged as part of the competition? This is a singing contest. If everyone is going to be judged also on their personal lives, then bring out the violins.

I like Kellie, but I thought she was aweful last week. If judged by that performance only she could/should have been gone too. I think she was one of the ones that was heavily showcased in audition part and people have seen enough potential to look past one bad performance.

The guys definitely OUT-PERFORMED the girls this week - IMHO

Elliot was great - so was Chris

Time for David and possibly either Sway/Bucky or Kevin to go

The guys definitely out-performed the girls this week. Tuesday's (girls) show was the most boring show I've seen on American Idol.

We have a pool going at work that picks who is going to be voted off each week. You get points for each correct pick and at the end of the season, whoever has the most points wins. I picked David and Sway for the guys this week, and Brenna and Heather for the girls.

Not too long until the results show tonight....

Watched both nights and agree that boys outshined the girls. I think the right ones have gone home but not in the right order. Kevin should've been gone last week. Sway may not have a spectacular voice but he is certainly better than Kevin and as a far more enjoyable entertainer.

Where, I knew he would not go home last night, I thought Ace's performance was horrible. Truly bad. Gedeon blew me away again. I knew he would come through. Elliot was perfect. He has such a nice tone. I still think Chris sounds like every other rock singer out there right now. Sure he has a good voice but he is not unique at all.

I hope they bring it hard next week.

Simon said it last night when Ryan asked "Of the two, Kevin or Sway, which one is going home?"

Simon replied, "Well, it won't be because of the vocals"

Kevin won't last .... even my wife admits she likes him CAUSE HE'S NICE & INNOCENT ... I actually thought that was kind of A KNOCK when they put Kevin's face up on the screen along with Chicken Little, funny, but kinda not necessary.

It's getting tougher to predict/decide who stays or goes ... man, I am so glad that girl Brenna is gone - I really did not like her ... she's all about BLING -MONEY - BEING IN THE SPOT LIGHT - AND HERSELF

As long as the contestant pick their own songs, they'll either "cut their own throats" or learn from what the judges are telling them/others and do just fine.

I like how some of the singers are taking riskes and doing a song completely out of their character/personality.
