A look back - 1998 article on the WNBA

Last night, I found a 1998 article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette online site. It offers an interesting look at the fan reaction on the early days of the WNBA, from the local (Pittsburgh) perspective, even though there is still no WNBA team in the Iron City. According to the article, some Pittsburghers even traveled as far as to Cleveland to the see the (now-defunct) Cleveland Rockers in action!

Anyway, I am including it here because Sacramento Monarchs fan Sylvia Cagle is mentioned in the article. Is she a member of this board? Sometimes, I have a difficult time figuring who is what on this board, in terms of real first-names, their faces, and their online screen-names!

Happy reading! :)

Interesting article, Steven.

I googled Audrey Tabon and discovered she is going to be a senior at the University of Illinois this year, playing on their basketball team. Cool to see a quote from her as a 13 year old.

GO MONARCHS!!!

You're welcome.

On another note, I am working on getting a 1997 article about the WNBA printed up here. It is painstaking because I am going to have seek permission from the author of the article and type verbatim, since there is no website link to the article. It originally appeared on a now-defunct magazine called "Bay Sports Review", which was published in Oakland during the 90's decade, and has long since closed down.
