Hearing Jaime Coffee and Morgan during a Not!Monarchs game is bittersweet as hell.
Valkyries got their first win in franchise history last night, tying the 2000 Miami Sol and the 2000 Portland Fire** for the fourth-fastest expansion team to get their first win. The 1999 Minnesota Lynx, 2000 Indiana Fever** and 2006 Chicago Sky all won their first-ever game.

The Portland Fire...Man, that brings back some memories...I remember having such high hopes for Jackie Stiles once she came into the league, but, unfortunately, injuries derailed her professional basketball career.
Valkyries survived a late rally from the Los Angeles Sparks to get their first-ever road win and improve to 2-1.

I am often amused by the disconnect between people who hardcore follow the WNBA and people who follow other sports, and how familiar WNBA fans are with other sports, and vice versa... Someone in the WNBA subreddit made a post to ask who a Valkyrie "super fan" was, and why the Valkyries keep putting him on the jumbotron, and they posted a screenshot of the "super fan," and it's Brandin Podziemski.

Morgan Ragan was not available to do play-by-play tonight, for reasons I am as yet unaware of. Does anyone know whether or not Morgan Ragan still works for the Valkyries? Because she's been replaced on the broadcast by Aja Ellison for the last few games, and apparently she just took time off in the middle of the WNBA season to **** off to Ireland?
Two games ago, Paige Bueckers set a WNBA high for the season with 44 points against the Los Angeles Sparks. Here is an example of some of the defense that Natalie Nakase had the Valkyries playing on her today:
On facebook and reddit it seems fans are saying they were rotating announcers for some reason, like this year was all a rehearsal, but she'll be back soon.
Also appears some people don't like her because she is a fan of the league more than a fan of the team. "I want dumb homer announcer" does explain 3/4 of the NBA guys.
There's currently an indefinite delay in the Fever/Valkyries game due to a clock issue. There's talk of resuming the game with court-level shot clocks.

That's exactly what they did. And even THOSE were glitchy and there was another indefinite delay. We were never told what the technical difficulty was, I was reading today it had to do with some power outage that had happened earlier in the day. At the half, I told my neighbor if Golden State lost this game it would SQUARELY be on the clock delays. Their offense was smoking again in the first half coming out of the first delay and they struggled the rest of the way after the second one. The regular clocks were functional again in the 2nd half and the Valkyries were able to cobble enough offense together and lean on their defense to get that win.
The Golden State Valkyries have clinched a playoff berth. They become the first expansion team in WNBA history to make the playoffs in their inaugural season. They have also clinched a winning season, the second expansion team to do so (1998 Detroit Shock).

I am, in fact, aware of that. I'm still not giving Lacob any grace. Yeah, he had booked the Laver Cup since before he got the Valkyries, but not since before he was trying to get the Valkyries. Which indicates to me that it was within his power to reserve those dates in anticipation of getting the Valkyries.
And really, now, It's not like the Laver Cup is a major, or anything... How much juice does that tournament even have, now that Federer and Nadal have retired?

I have no idea how much juice the Laver Cup has, but since its inception it has always been held in the third of fourth week in September. It would have been within Lacob's power to decline to host the Cup entirely in the hopes of landing the Valkyries (and in subsequent hope that they would break all precedent and make the playoffs in their first year), but that seems silly to me. Bird-in-hand, and all that.
I hear you, but I still say he should have done it, anyway. I'm good dying on this hill.
