2008 Draft Player Watch

I'm not warm to Bobbit at all...a point guard should have some assists and that's just not Bobbit's game, Hornbuckle has more assists and fewer turnovers than Bobbit does. What is her selling point?

I'd still look at Beck, I'd be willing to also look at Rego and Mitchell. Zoll, meh, I guess.... I'd still look at White, she's running Van's pro style offense, and is running it efficiently and still is among the top leaders in the country in A/TO and she's been having a helluva tournament.

But we need to be looking post first...If Humphrey is who is there, I'd call it good.

WNBA.com Draft Central

For your viewing pleasure...the WNBA Draft Central Page is up

http://www.wnba.com/draft2008/index.html

Whilst I was playing around with all the widgetry there, I dialed up the last few #10 overall picks in the WNBA draft.

PlayerYearRoundPickCollegeCurrent Team
Douglas, Katie 2001 1 10 Purdue Indiana Fever
Snow, Michelle 2002 1 10 Tennessee Houston Comets
Brunson, Rebekkah 2004 1 10 Georgetown Sacramento Monarchs
Moore, Loree 2005 1 10 Tennessee New York Liberty
Fluker, Tye'sha 2006 1 10 Tennessee Seattle Storm
Thomas, Carla 2007 1 10 Vanderbilt Atlanta Dream

Not too shabby....except I was never sold on Fluker and Thomas barely got to play last year, so I dunno what to think of her as a pro...otherwise...eh, not too shabby.

More Players Added to Draft Camp Invite List

Added draft campers (full release)

NEW YORK – The WNBA announced today that four players have been added to the group of prospects scheduled to participate in the 2008 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp at the University of Tampa on April 4-5.
In all, 42 prospects representing the top, young talent in the women’s game from around the world, will showcase their skills and compete against one another in drills, half court scenarios and full court scrimmages during three on-court sessions. The camp offers coaches and general managers from all 14 WNBA teams an opportunity to evaluate the top young players in advance of the 2008 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, which will take place on April 9 and is expected to be the deepest in league history.

Joining the list of players announced yesterday are Aquonesia Franklin (Texas A&M), Carlene Hightower (LaSalle), Jackie McFarland (Colorado), and Khadijah Whittington (NC State

Here is a quote from Coach Whisnant:

But deep drafts are also helpful to those teams that have the majority of their picks in the later stages. The Sacramento Monarchs have one first-round selection at No. 10, but their following three picks don’t come until the third round between Nos. 38 and 43.

“There are obviously a couple of really outstanding players that are difference makers that’ll go one and two,” said Sacramento GM John Whisenant. “Then there’s a shelf below those two that are really good players that can be contributing important assets for whatever teams’ needs are. There are some nice players down there that could go in the second and third rounds and make WNBA teams, depending on needs.

“With our third round picks, we’re just looking to fill in. We always need shooters, shooters on the wings. With losing Kristin Haynie in the expansion draft we need a backup point guard to Ticha (Penicheiro) and Kara (Lawson), in case we have injuries.”

AMEN, AMEN, AHHHHHHMENNNNNNN!!!!!:D:D:D

Coach also says......“I think this is an unusually good post year,” said Whisenant. “There’s an unusual number of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4 players that have ability. I think that’s an indication that more and more young girls are playing because of the WNBA. You’re starting to see an effect of that. Twelve years (of the WNBA) is starting to give a lot of little girls motivation to take the game seriously.”

Sounds like he has been reading this board.

Seriously folks, I would like to take this brief opportunity to commend the Monarchs fans/family members here at Kings Fans.com I think ya'll know your stuff!!! I have been posting on this board for years and come to appreciate the knowledge and wisdom of WNBA Basketball here compared to a certain national board that I peek at often. I wish there were more of us, but the few that are here on the Monarchs side, keep doing what you do. I am a season ticket holder and some of your faces I see from a distance, and say there is ....... or there is....... You may not know or see my face, but that is OK. As long as you continue to come here and share Monarchs Basketball.

I know all of that is corny. Please forgive my cornyness!!!!!

Thanks for the sentiment, PR, and I could not agree more. We may disagree about things, but we have good basketball knowledge (especially of the women's game) to back up our talk. High 5 to everyone here.

Ditto what 6th and PR said....Whiz appears to have understood his marching orders as delineated by this forum. ;)

I'm posting this link to a gallery from SPM of photos from draft camp, it made me laugh as I clicked through them when I saw sporty Whiz and coach JB. Particularly coach JB because if you look at the photo on page 4 (which should be the page this link starts on) AND look at the 4th photo from the end, it appears coach has ZERO poker face unless she was just bonding with her fellow Virginia (soon to be) alumni. Otherwise she is being incredibily obvious re: which pg she wants Whiz to give her. :D
