1989 NBA Draft...

is on right now on nbatv. Oh and great Pervis Ellison pick. I watched the 84,85, and 86 nba draft last night. It is funny how in the 84 draft half the guys were busts and with Utah picking John Stockton at number 16 everyone was shocked at the pick. The 1990 draft is on next that was the year we had the four first round picks Simmons,Mays,Causwell, and Bonner. They are playing all the drafts at certain times throughout the week in order so 90,91,92,93,etc... It is fun going back and watching these old drafts and what was said back than and how these players actually turned out.

It may be fun to you but it would be depressing to me to watch these old drafts. The Kings had high draft picks for the most part from the time they got here through 99 and nary a true difference maker was picked until J-Will.

I sure as hell don't want to re-live Bill Russell wasting our only #1 overall pick...Out of Service Pervis was quite possibly the biggest waste of an overall #1 pick...even moreso than, Kwame Brown, IMO. Thanks Bill!

I go back and reread 10 year old Wallstreet Journals so I can second guess all my investment decisions... same basic kind of pointless self flagelation:rolleyes:

I was at Arco that day as a kid, it was the first season I followed basketball. Before that I was just a SF Giants fan. I remember my dad guessed who Bill Russell was going to pick. Later a Bee reporter interviewed him afterwards who was sitting a few rows back. Good Times ;)

The difference is that you and I and some of the others REMEMBER those days. To kids like BRad1055 it's ancient history.

:p

The 93 draft was on today. I was like what happened to Hurley, he sounded like a really good player based off what the commentators were saying. I wikipedia'd him, really sad about the car accident. What did you guys think of him back then? I checked his numbers and he averaged 6 assists in around 20 mpg, that's pretty impressive.

Honestly he was not very good even before the car accident. He really struggled shooting the ball, and although he looked good running a fast break he wasn't really quick enough in the half court to do much.

Yeesh, how old are you, bro? I'm only 25, but I remember Hurley's college days, and the accident, like it was yesterday.

It was a bad pick but in our eternal dumb luck we wound up with the #1 spot in one of the 5 worst draft years since the Kings came to town. As an Arizona fan I was hyped on Elliot but he didn't really set the NBA on fire either.

Comparing it to Brown seems a little unfair when you consider the depth of the 2001 draft except to point out the ineptitude of 2 of the games greatest players as GMs.
