My fandom of women's basketball is known and, occasionally, lamented around here. Laurie Koehn can't play. Can't. Play. Not even a Garbage Time All-Star. Straight Mateen.

Oh, she can gun it, no question about that: she participated in the one 3-Point Contest the WNBA has ever held at their All-Star Game, and won by a million miles. But there are two major problems:
  • She can't do anything else but shoot threes. She's played five seasons in the WNBA and, literally, ninety-five percent (105 out of 111) of her made shots, and ninety-three percent (244 out of 263) of her field goal attempts were outside the arc. Which wouldn't, necessarily be a problem, except
  • She can't get that shot off against defense. She gets completely smothered by even below-average defenders. If she's not wide open, she can't score.

She can't shoot off the dribble, she can't handle the ball, she can't guard a folding chair. She's like one of those guys you find on the driving range, who can hit it four hundred yards, but can't play golf. She's a sideshow act, nothing more.
