Welcome Coach Doug Christie!

I have to say, I was skeptical of DC as the HC but this team looks reborn. Every recent game I’ve felt way more relaxed, like we are better than the opponent and like we are the ones in control (except for the bucks game).

It seems like our players have that same confidence now. I’m sold on DC. Having fun watching again and the players seem to have fun playing again too.

Yeah when did Doug start coaching? Remember he was a broadcaster when the org brought him back into the fold. Bobby Jackson initially looked like next man up from the golden years. Wonder if Doug would find a role for him if he is permanent coach for 2025-26. Associate Head Coach? He is just one of many on Philly's bench? Can you imagine those two preaching hustle and defense and being team first players. My god.
I figure the best thing for Bobby is to keep building his network, the more people who know him, the more will consider him when a head coaching spot opens up

Is it the new coach bounce effect or competent coaching? The mystery deepens.
You should post this on the "Welcome Doug Christie" thread. I said from the beginning of the season that the Kings were not running enough screens. Too often, we saw five guys passing the ball around the arc then Fox or Monk trying one-on-one penetration; or four guys on the arc trying to get the ball to Sabonis.

What a difference today! As the commentators said "That's crazy efficiency."

And where Doug is concerned, hiring your buddy would not instill the needed confidence from the larger organization. He needs well-established professionals around him who can offer him perspectives he would not anticipate on his own.

Winning in the post season is a different animal compared to winning in the regular season.

Christie is off to a good start and has shown promise in making in-game adjustments to gain/exploit slight advantages that add up to wins. This is reflected in the Kings W-L record (4-0) in close games decided by 5 points or less. This is a significant improvement from the Kings W-L record (3-11) in close games under Mike Brown.

Depending on how well things go in the coming weeks, I think the Kings would be better served by adding more experienced assistants that have had success in post season. There should be no place for weak nepotism hires.

Would Bobby be such a weak nepotism hire? He has paid his dues here and elsewhere......... They have worked together before besides just playing together, so there would be a working familiarity starting out......

Bobby has put in his dues and has progressed through the levels. Ideally, I would prefer someone with associate HC or lead assistant experience that has worked playoffs extensively. If they consider someone like Bibby or Peja, I would be out.

I can agree with your take on Bibby or Peja. But first, he needs the coaching job without the current qualifier.

There was an article in the Lithuanian media today about Christie visiting Lithuania in the summer of 2023.
https://www.15min.lt/24sek/naujiena...-a-saboniu-ir-domanto-potenciala-1130-2376538

In the quote there is a piece translated with Google Translate from that article.

Thus began a relationship between these men that has lasted for three years.

D. Christie immediately began training Dom to the place where his father flourished most: the corner of the penalty area, known in Americans as the "elbow." It was from there, the Kings coach believed, that D. Sabonis could best create play and help his teammates, and when the defense was too focused on other players, he could also attack himself.

The Kings coach could draw inspiration not only from A. Sabonis, but also from his longtime teammates, V. Divac and C. Webber, who were excellent passers. These powerful, tall players also often created the game from the aforementioned "elbow" position.

Christie also felt responsible for other aspects of Sabonis' game, especially his offense. After the 2022-2023 season ended, the men worked together for a large part of the summer. The main areas of individual work were D. Sabonis' right-handed play and his shooting from longer distances. Christie wanted the Lithuanian to become more aggressive on offense. He advised him to watch as much of Nikola Jokic's game footage as possible. The Serb was also too passive in his early career attacking the basket and constantly looking for teammates, but after breaking free and starting to use his advantages, he has consistently scored at least 26 points per game over the past five seasons.

In order to get to know his student even better and understand how he could help him, D. Christie packed his bags and flew across the Atlantic. In the summer of 2023, he spent several weeks in Palanga, spending time not only with Domantas, but also with the entire Sabonis family.

During the day, D. Christie worked with the Kings leader, and in his free time or in the evenings, he was friends with Arvydas Sabonis, Ingrida Saboniene, and others. He didn't miss the opportunity to explore the surroundings - the NBA legend got on his bike and hit the road. Men still remember this story with laughter. "It seems to me that he rode his bike all the way from Palanga to Klaipėda (posthumously), and even got lost once," D. Sabonis said with a laugh while talking to 15min in Chicago.

"I rode my bike everywhere. Maybe even too far, because I started to get nervous and got lost," the hero of the story himself, D. Christie, shared his memories with 15min , laughing. An American visiting our country for the first time was surprised. Having imagined Lithuania as a country with a harsh climate, in the middle of summer he saw a completely different picture. "I had a great time in Lithuania. They (the Sabonis - postscript) own a hotel in the beach area. When I thought about Lithuania before, snow, cold, etc. immediately came to mind. But it was completely different - the sun was constantly shining," said D. Christie, who played in the NBA for 15 years and 827 games, with a smile.

He also used only the best words to describe the time he spent with the Sabonis family. "We sat and had dinner with Arvydas and Dom's mother, talked, smoked cigars and drank an immeasurable amount of wine - we had a great time," the American laughed. "I heard some very interesting stories." "Doug gets along very well with my family - with his dad, with his brothers, with his mom, with everyone," Domantas Sabonis added. "He really liked Palanga, too."

Why were you skeptical? He's a really smart guy, and when he played for the Kings, in his interviews he had a really really high BBall IQ. He understands how to actually rest players too, unlike Brown.

Doug and Domas dad Arvydas have one thing in common - Lakers. As Domas said himself, in his family they can talk about everything except the West Conference final's game 7 in LA when Blazers lost. Blazers had 15 point lead, but Kobe, Shaq and reffs happened in the 4th. What I recall from that game that Rasheed Wallace was sub out and didn't come back quick enough when Lakers finally got into the grove. Nobody else could score for Blazers and Sheed was on the bench.
BTW, no wonder Doug get lost on a bike in Palanga (almost impossible thing to do). Anyone who spends evening while drinking vine and talking to Arvydas Sabonis is doomed to be lost next day. Yeah, drinking vine. Maybe they were drinking mineral water? ;)
I love everything about Christie right now. I just want to point out his body language, facial expressions. We can see and feel that he is together with the team. Mentally, emotionally. Success is impossible without the passion. Good example too - Domas himself :)

I mean the Kings have the most obvious “cheat” in years. The ref literally admitted to cheating during his career.

Can't help but think that Sabonis had the largest influence in the move to head coach for Christie

Small detail but I noticed how reassuring he was when Keon fouled in a 3 point shot attempt, asked for a challenge, DC asked his bench. they didn't encourage him to challenge it and he replied immediately to Keon that "it's ok", like "don't worry about it".
There are many details in each match with him talking to the players quite often during the match and in almost every single pause.
Our former coach had this "attention to details" motto, but it seems that as a rule it worked only for the players, the coach himself was excused. Well let's hope DC carries on with similar performances for years and doesn't change his attitude in the next season(s).

I know they had a challenge procedure and probably the cameras didn't quite capture it as well or Doug is more emotive when he asks his review guys but even so, it sure seems Doug is more judicious about using them. Also he understands that even if right it probably isn't worth it to use in the first quarter.

It was timely management's decision. Sure Domas "influenced' it. As Fox, Monk, Keegan, DDR and company did. No way healthy Kings squad should have been 13-18 and 6-12!!! at home.
I watched how MB did with LBJ in Cleveland. Very unimpressive. MB is super solid assistant coach. Head coach? I think he doesn't have it "mentally". Game management is always a step or more behind.
In Domas I trust. I trust in Monk. Fox used to be clutch, but now he has DDR on the floor at the end of game. I hope Fox' trade talks will go away. I hope that in the future I will trust Christie. So far I don't feel any red flag vibes from Christie. I just love the guy. Though love come and goes, but the record stays forever.
Head coach can do just as much. Domas is #1 in 3PT% at 48+%, Keon currently is 8th at 44+%. IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME OTHER GUYS GOT THEIR SHEET TOGETHER!!! Domas deserves more triple doubles and Kings assists overall. Not more offensive rebounds ;)

although to his and his staff's credit, he challenged an obvious one like 17 seconds into a recent game and won it

was that actually the Lakers game? I remember one where he had to burn two challenges on really bad calls and then the refs were free to screw us over the rest of the game.
