I'm pretty sure Reke is staying. He attended the Rally, moved into a new house, and from listening to Grant earlier, he said Reke's going to attend the Draft party downtown. He loves Sac. He's been loyal ever since he was drafted.

@James_Ham if another team like the Hawks goes nuts and offers Reke 4yrs $50 mil...does Sac match?! #NBA

@RealReichert I believe they do. I'm not sure where they cap out, but the Kings want to retain him from what I know.

Ham is generally an idiot, but usually admits when he has no clue. I'll take that as a positive sign that he's heard from within the organization they want to keep Reke.

If the FO didn't extend the QO to Evans, would they still have retained his bird rights, making him sign-and-trade bait? If so, then this news means that they want to keep him.

The Kings would still have retained Bird Rights if they didn't tender a QO but they would have lost the right to match any other team's offer, meaning Tyreke could leave for nothing.

Still, I'm not sure you can necessarily read into that the idea that the Kings intend to retain him at any cost. Really, the QO is 1 year at just under $7M and Tyreke is a bargain at that price. So even if Tyreke didn't sign an offer with anybody, we'd still have him at a bargain price, so it's the obvious thing to do. No downside whatsoever. Whether we match a big offer sheet (if one is forthcoming) is pretty much independent of whether we're willing to chance 1/$7M. Certainly I hope we do match pretty much any offer, and the above followup from Ham suggests that we might be leaning that way, but we'll have to see.

I hope we keep Tyreke without overpaying....dude is good and still has loads of potential. But, jump shot where art thou? I don't wanna still be hoping every offseason that Tyreke comes in with a better shot. Put it all together man!!! Please...lol

edit: btw, I know Tyreke has been improving.....I just want to see him really put it all together. Hopefully the new coaching staff can bring the most out of him. Coach Smart was terrible for Reke.....terrible for the whole team. In fact I shall never repeat that name again haha.

Anything is possible, you never know. Look at the type of contracts that players like Kenny Thomas got, I wouldn't be completely shocked if someone gave Reke the max. I don't think it's likely though.

I doubt it. There are a lot of guard and wing free agents out there (Iggy, Mayo, Jennings, Teague, Ellis, K-Mart, T. Allen, Reddick, to name a few). I imagine most teams who aren't as familiar with Evans or want a more "sure" veteran might rather pay one of those guys $8-10 million than Evans the max.

given the amount of cap space teams have this year and the procieved notion that the organization was holding rekes development back someone(i think dallas or atlanta) is going to throw a sizeable number at Reke. also keeping in mind that Reke is still pretty young.

Well let's put it this way. I'd lose ALL faith in the new FO if they didnt' offer the QO. Very "duh" move.

Interesting to see what his price-tag ends up being

And replace him with...? There are older less talented guys making that and more and we're an undesirable market.
That's around what his market is as far as I'm concerned - 8-9. I don't think we're going to be pressed on it, at all. None of the teams I see with a large amount of cap room this off season in my mind will be angling to pay him 10+. Look at the top free agent lists, where is going to be the demand? As far as overpaying to keep players content with the environment, I'm not with it, just as much as our free agents are looking to leverage every last dollar from us, this is a business

A smart business knows that keeping its employees happy and loyal is worth more in the long run than penny pinching in the short run.

And as mentioned, Derozan is getting paid $9.5per, and he's an inferior player in most ways. If we can get out of this only having to match that number, we'll be doing well.

yep exactly. Someone is going to throw big money at Reke. We will be doing well if the figure is under 10mill a season. His skillset is unique he's being doing well without a system nor a coach

It's a business on both sides, but we have a talent that, by all accounts, WANTS to be in Sacramento. There are no rumors about him heading back east, or wanting to leave despite the **** sandwich he was served by Smart. For me, that says a lot, and we need to be prepared to reward that.

Good business isn't just about money.
