Kings vs. Lakers Preseason Game 5

Again, it all goes back to the jumper with Reke. He's playing a strong game everywhere else, but his lack of an outside shot is hampering his ability to take over this game.

This game is a great example of what shooting can do for you. If you watch the Lakers defense when the Kings can't spread the floor vs. when they can it's drastically different. Perfect example is when they had Tyreke/Cousins with the ball and had Jimmer spreading vs. Tyreke doing the same. They are almost making it mandatory for Cousins to be a jumpshooter because they are just swarming everything that gets in the paint. Just like last year.

And hampering this teams ability to get space inside. Not good for a team so focused on playing post out. Tyreke looks best when handling it, nothing new, still in denial about it apparently, give him the damn ball coach!! This teams top priority needs to be getting some sort of two man game from Reke/Cousins, if not, time to look at making some moves.

I've been telling my friend about the two man game ever since Cousins was drafted. Reke ain't Kobe, but a Reke/DMC 2 man game would be pretty dominant, especially if Reke ever has a consistent jumper.

Tha'ts why I'm surprised we haven't seen a Reke/MT backcourt.

Thornton wants to start. And finish. And his performance indicates that he should start and finish. Jimmer made a very nice play. He looks poised out there. Nice to see.

MT's first half is why he's better served off the bench. 1-7, 0 asts, 1 reb. And he's not the best defender. He's great when he's on, but streaky and somewhat one dimensional. 6th man.

Disagree. 1 bad half of MT makes him more deserving of a bench role over an entire bad pre-season from Tyreke? If Smart thinks our team is better with Thornton anchoring our bench, I'll trust that. But he is more deserving of a starting spot.

I don't want to hear Jerry Reynolds say that JT can guard C's, he can't, never has, probably never will. Didn't look so bad guarding Ebanks though. The more things change....

Then again he was coming off the bench, maybe there is a correlation here?

This team needs shooting period, from what I saw tonight, preferably in the lineup with Reke/JJ as your WING combo. Neither are shooting specialists by a long shot.

The problem with our current starting 5 is the only good shooter on the floor is IT. Reke-JJ-Trob-Cousins is a paint-oriented offense and teams will just force that lineup to take jumpers all game long and keep us out of the paint

Thornton looks better than any other two guard we have right now. He's got to play some big minutes. Maybe his great play is just a streak that will crash and burn, but you've got to play him big, big minutes now. Tyreke looks lost out there.
