If Kings move will you root for them to win, lose, or would you no longer care?

If the Kings leave Sacramento, I will:

As petty as it is, I think I'd find myself hoping they stay losers and accomplish nothing because watching them prosper in another city would just be too bitter a pill for me to swallow.

I could care less what happens to them if they move out of Nor Cal. If they relocate to San Jose I'd drive down to see them once in awhile and hope to see their games on TV. I was a W's fan before Kings arrived in Sac and could easily see myself rooting for them again. Like you, I'd be depressed for sometime, but I don't want to be dragged down forever. Additionally, if we could get MBL or NFL team in not too distant future I'd basically forget the Kings ever existed around these parts.

Sadly, I feel like this would be my mindset as well.

I wish i cared at all about football or baseball. i guess I probably would if Sacramento had a team.

Of course I'll root for them. I don't blame the Maloofs from a business perspective. And that's what the NBA is, big business. And I obviously don't blame the players, who've I always rooted for. I live in the Bay Area anyway, and watch most games on TV. I started following them when I lived in NY. Whatever city they're in makes no diiference to me.

I will say however, if they do move, I on;y have 2 reasons to ever go back to Sac. Visit my sister, or get gas on my way to Tahoe.

You're perspective is obviously different from life long Sacramento residents, then. Sacramento natives can't imagine The Kings playing anywhere else and I doubt many of them will still follow or root for The Kings if they leave. Tons of former Sonic fans hate OKC, I think we'll see a lot of that with The Kings if they move, too. it may not be a logical reaction, but then again, being a sports fan isn't about logic...it's about passion and emotion and to a large degree, that's based on "regional pride". Fans outside of a team's region just don't have the same kind of connection to a team as the fans in the region do. I'm a huge Celtics fan but it wouldn't bother me much if they left Boston because them being in Boston has nothing to do with why i'm a fan. The Kings however, especially over the last 5 years have had me as a fan almost solely because their Sacramento's team. There's no reason other than regional support and pride to care about a bad team as far as I'm concerned.

Well, you know what a long time San Francisco newspaper pundit once said about Sacramento vs. San Francisco... Herb Caen (who was born in Sac but moved to SF as a young man and lived to around 85) put it this way. "The only thing Sacramento is good for is a place to take a pee on the way to Tahoe." He wrote that in The San Francisco Examiner back around 35 years ago and not much has changed since - sadly, so sadly. It's the mindset, that mindset - that sort of Marlon Brando Apocalyspe Now feel of, "the horror, the horror." Good night Kings Fans - try not to have any nightmare dreams...

I hate to sound like a terrible fan, but I'd probably stop rooting for them. If they stayed somewhere close, like San Jose, I might change my mind. But a complete move to So Cal or another state, I just couldn't handle that. I know the Maloofs are trying to run a business, but I feel like that's betraying our city.

Of course I will follow them! They are my team. Having said that, I don't have the regional attachment to them since I am not from USA.

I hope they stay in Sacramento but if they move, it makes no difference to my attachment to the team. I would still be a Kings fan! It would feel weird to start off with but to me it would be the same team the only thing different would be the name at the front of the home jersey!

Having said that, I have always hoped that the team stays in Sacramento and still hope thats the case but I can't blame the Maloofs if they do move the team. They have been jerked around for a decade now and every attempt made to build a new arena was rebuffed. The Maloofs have said a million of times that they want to keep the team in Sacramento but looking at it from a "neutral" perspective it might have been their downfall because the group of "suits" on the other side have used that to their advantage in the past rejecting anything that doesn't fully meet their outrageous demands.

Have you ever thought that a city of Sacramento might be betraying the Kings?

Serioudly its been a freaking decade and the thing is no closer to getting done. Surely if the city of Sacramento was genuine about wanting to keep the Kings that they would have come to some sort of agreement on the new arena. I know the economy at the moment is really bad and the team not much better in terms of wins and losses but it has not been like that all the time. When the economy was good and the team was one of the best in the league, those joksters repesenting the city of Sacramento were taking the Kings for granted and taking advantage of good times to gain a stronger hand in negotiations. Why would the kings leave when they were selling out every game and the mania about them was reaching enormous heights.

Now that the things have turned for worse (bad economy, losing team, even older and more run down building), its become a heck of a lot more difficult to get it done and unfortunately a heck of a more likely that the team might move somewhere else.

While I agree somewhat, I've been a diehard fan of the team for years, and me being a fan has never been in question, no matter ho wpoorly the team looks.

What I don't understand, is the fans on here, yes, many on here, as well as some other Kings sites, who live in Sac, and say they're done with the team, and won't watch until they're more competitive. That's not a fan. That's not some one I'd want at the game if I was a player. That's just another reason to leave if I'm the owner.

I get the impression there are a lot of spoiled, fair wheather fans in the Sac area. Attendance shows that. Comments made shows that. The city council has taken them for granted. I don't know what it is with some Sac area fans, obviously not all, but many seem to not be interested unless they're winning. that's not a normal fan. NFL fans don't act that way. Euro soccer fans don't act that way. many NBA fans on other cities don't act that way.

If they move to San Jose, hell yes I would. I may even buy season tickets.

If they move to Seattle, if my understanding is correct, they will no longer we associated with the Kings/Royals organization/history. They would simply be annexed as Sonics. So..no.

If the go back to Kansas City, probably not.

If they move to Anaheim, they will have to change the team name and colors because of the Ducks. So they will be in LA...and will probably have a stupid name like the Anaheim Attack, will have weird colors, and.. will be in LA. No thanks. I'd be done with them.

If they eventually get to Vegas and keep the Kings name, vegas is neutral enough, so yeah, I'd root for them again.

Probably not. Definitely not if its Anaheim or Seattle. Kansas City, I think I could handle. Anywhere else, doubtful but not impossible.

Anyone who has a regional attachment to them will most likely not follow the team where it moves. Ive thought about it and i guess id try follow them but the fire and passion simply wouldnt be there for me, the sight of seeing them play as anything but the kings so close to LA doesnt sit right with me. That being said i wish the team all the best, i hope tyreke and demarcus fullfill their potential and they can prosper as much as it cuts me deep that they wont be doing it from Sacramento.

i would contemplate following the paths of heath ledger, kurt cobain, jared lee loughner, or maybe adolf hitler.. havent decided yet

Strongly Agree.
I wonder what is gonna happen with this forum if they move...
This feeling sucks. :(

I would hope the worst for them, as mean as that sounds.

I really dont know what i'd do, i dont know if i would be able to watch NBA basketball anymore, if i did continue to watch i guess i would cheer for OKC and Boston seeing as those are the only other 2 NBA teams i like.

Its just hard to think about, i guess we will have to deal with it when it happens.

as a kings fan originally from sacramento and now living in orange county, i have mixed feelings... although i would prefer for them to stay in my home town, anaheim would be my second choice for them to land, being that it is 20 minutes drive for me to the honda center....

if you are a true kings fan, you can definitely understand the maloofs frustration of trying to get a new, updated arena built.... as a native sacramentan, i definitely feel for the people of sacramento losing a team...

but as a kings fan, not just a sacramento fan, if they moved to anaheim, i would definitely still support them...

in the long run, if they did move to anaheim (so. Cal), i think it would be easier for them to attract top free agents and resign their own budding stars, i.e. demarcus and evans... sadly to say this, but the kings may be a better team in the long run in anaheim...

i would be angry and heartbroken and very depressed but i have been a huge fan ever since i started watching their games. theres no way i could abandon them even if they moved to anaheim. besides i wanna see demarcus and tyreke grow into something great. :) Go Kings!

I hear ya. That's pretty much how I feel about it right now, too. I suppose it's vindictive thinking but the idea of The Kings winning in another city makes me ill. To be perfectly honest, if they move to Anaheim and end up playing for a half empty arena in the shadow of The Lakers, it would tickle me pink! Heck, I'd even start rooting for The Lakers when they play the Kings!

I want to see Tyreke and DeMarcus grow into something great...in Sacramento. Otherwise, they could break the team up for all I care. In fact, I'd rather see them break up that prosper in another city.

It sucks but I'd be a fan, I'm not from Sac and never lived there so I wouldn't be heart broken but I also don't want to be anywhere near L.A. then again if they can't use the Kings name then I'm not sure.

If they team moves to Anaheim I don't think I'd be a fan any longer. Just feels like a total sell out. I think my interest in the NBA would probably drop off completely... could see myself becoming a Thunder fan maybe? But probably just would have a lot more free time and drop the LP subscription.

If the team moves anywhere OTHER than SoCal, there's a good chance I stick with them. Hard to say though, it wouldn't be the same. I'm more attached to the area (where I'm from) than the collection of guys.

I live or die Kings. I lived in sac for 25years. I will be devastated if they moved to LA. I wish it would be Louisville or Kansas IF they have to move since those locations are closer to me. But YES I will follow them anywhere until I die. Sacramento is the city making the Maloofs leave don't ever forget that.

#28
The thing with moving to SoCal that makes it particularly insulting is that it makes the Maloofs seem like they want to just be Donald Sterling. Not really caring about the quality of the product you put out there -- not even really caring if you're a second or third class citizen in the sports market, only that you're making money on the team every year.

Move the team anywhere OTHER than SoCal please. Or sell it to an owner with deeper pockets -- someone who doesn't need the Kings to turn a profit so badly (any other Paul Allens out there??).

#29
The move would make no difference to me. The Kings are now and still would be a 12 hours flight away from my home. It's even easier for me to get to Anaheim than to Sacramento.

Above all it's about the franchise and not the city. I root for a team because I like the players, the fans and the whole organization. I live in Vienna but I would never root for a "Viennese" hockey or soccer team. The reason for that: I just dislike the players and fans over here.

It will be Sacratmento's fault if they let go the Kings. The City hasn´t been able to build a new arena for the team, so I won't blame it on the Kings.

Definitely interesting the perspective of the "out of towners" vs the NorCal folks. :) For all of you not from California, there's definitely no love lost between the North/South for reasons that go far beyond sports!
